Every year a golf trip is arranged with the guys, and we all meet up for some great golf. I live in Sweden now, but it doesn't stop me coming back time after time for some fun. We've previously done The Belfry and Okehampton (a couple of times), and next up is Celtic Manor.

I've never been, but does anyone have any tips regarding the facilities or courses (we play all three)? We have the health facilities, so I've already packed my Speedos...

Buggy for all but the 2010...

Roman Road and Montgomerie have some lengthy walks between tees and greens. 2010 isn't bad, as they made it relatively tight. I also echo the above. Take the 15th on, on the 2010. It's an easier hole that way

Fantastic resort and course having played there a few weeks ago, in the sun as well!

All three good courses. Roman and Montgomerie are a longer, hillier walk but we were fine walking. Buggies had to stay on cart paths so always ruin it when you are carrying 3 clubs to the other side of the fairway.

Service exceptional, you can leave golf bags with the staff in the clubhouse and they'll sort so they are in the right place for the next day which saves lugging them about.

Cashpoints charge so take cash or charge to room. £5 a pint.

2010 course, ask ahead, but they tell you to turn up an hour before tee off as they show you round the clubhouse, give you balls on the driving range to warm up and photograph (optional to buy) on the first tee. Nice ball marker as a memento.

Montgomerie had par 3 comp on - £5 entry, gives £5 off in shop and if hit the green then free round on roman or montgomerie (mid week). May be less use if you are living in Sweden.

Preference went 2010, Roman then Montgomerie. Recommend watching a little bit of 2010 Ryder Cup on youtube so you remember it a bit more before playing. 14th - play short or go long as not a lot of room to bailout on the left rather than going over the water on right. 15th - Go for the green, easiest route off yellows. Par 5 18th nice signature hole too and a sign towards the end of fairway (left hand rough) showing how far Colesarts drove the ball in Welsh Open.

Montgomerie was a bit more blind in a few places so worth a course guide, Roman road changed layout so my GPS watch showed the wrong holes.

To add, Montgomerie par 5 3rd hole is a very nice hole but also has a good view of 2010 course on the left by the green. Worth having a camera handy on that hole if you do like to take some photos on tour.

Thanks for all the great replies!

Go for the green on the 15th on the 2010. Got to be done.
Consider that a given. Almost made the 10th green off the tee at the Brabazon at Belfry. I'll let you know how it goes this time. :)

If you're playing the 2010, take some spare balls, plenty of water to compete with.
I'm playing 2 rounds at the Twenty Ten, and one each on the Monty and Roman Road...3 dozen 'should' be enough. *'crosses fingers**

Amazing information Sports_Fanatic, very much appreciated! Especially liking the buggy advice as we booked one for the first round of the Twenty Ten as we'll have been awake (English pal living in Stockholm heading back for the golf with me) and traveling for close to 11 hours by the time we tee off, so we thought a buggy would be nice. May skip it now and save 30 odd quid.

Also, cheers for this recommendation and the Colsaerts thing, I LOVE bits like that!

Went last August, some people don't rate it but I absolutely loved it. All three courses are different and great. Roman Road doesn't need a buggy, either does the Twenty Ten but would recommend one for the Monty.

The service around the resort is exceptional.

You'll love it, definitely one to tick off the list.
