Castle Combe ...anyone played there?

Not a bad course overall, and was in good condition the couple of times I played it. It is built on fairly hilly ground, so by necessity has a few holes that play down some serious slopes. These are considered fun and quirky by some and a bit silly by others. A decent straight game will see you right. No need to be a big hitter.

Decent straight game?...... im screwed , I think that buggies are included in the deal
ooo never been on a buggy before, Do you need lessons? :)

I went on a society day few years back nice course but definate reccomend the buggys some fair hefty and climbs and walks between tees. A unusual par 3 with green 100 odd feet below tee. Should be an awesome day enjoy! :)

I live a few miles away and try and play it every year on a county card. For me the 12th par five is stunning.
There are three steep descents and ascents but if you are fit I would always walk the course. There is a buggy path throughout which I find a right pain. Electric trolley is the best option. Be warned the buggies are expensive.
As SocketRocket has said try and go down to the village. It's been voted best village many times. Doctor Doolittle was filmed there.
Hope you have good weather and a great day.

Played yesterday.
Although the course is hilly, I have to say the buggies are ok for the trip from green to the next tee but pointless for the play of the hole itself. Buggies must remain on the cart path which, if you're not a straight hitter, is more of a hindrance than a help to the pace of play. That said, many will feel that the buggy is a necessity to cope with the hills. Six hour rounds are the norm with casual players/hotel guests according to a member I spoke to in the spike bar.

Some great views and some challenges but I wouldn't pay full whack for it despite the high quality of the clubhouse facilities and attentive staff. Bar prices were not too bad and food was delish. HTH

Just what I was going to say - easy walking walking bar 3 cardiac ascents! Sticking to the buggy paths is a royal pain in the but and i would turn one down even if free. A few really nice holes, a few that would benefit from some tinkering and one or two pretty average. But a beautiful setting and usually a good day out - pity they ditched the snooker room!

I think its a nice enough course, second best in Wiltshire (but thats not that hard). definitely need a buggy which is shame if you dont like using them. The 12th par 5 is always mentioned as the signature hole, but i think it can split opinions. Personally i dont like the idea of a par 5 where you have to hit 6 iron off the tee!

Not a long course, so should be enjoyed by all

Good interesting course with some lovely holes. Well set out but a bit of a treck and V hilly in places and needs a buggy IMO. The whole place is overly expensive however but if your doing a group thing should be ok.

If you ever get chance take the missus and stay in the Manor House which is just down the way and connected... Choose a decent room, fantastic beds and walk in showers and live it up for a weekend. Pimms on the lawn afternoon tea etc etc.... I used to take all my "new" women there and it worked a treat!! ;)

It's ok, gone downhill a lot over recent years - used to be a pretty special in conditioning and service but not anymore.

A whole load of members left after they started flooding the place with greenfees - membership was best part of £2k!!!

Layout has been swapped around since original version - including changing the most ridiculous par 4 (ninth) into a poor par 3.

I wouldn't bother with a buggy, leccy trolley is a better bet IMO.

if buggies on cart paths only then its more hassle than its worth as you always have to carry a few clubs with you when your 'parked' 100yds away!
electrified golf club carrying facility would be preferred.......but each to their own

Great circuit, had a couple of track days there years ago. Drove past the golf course but didn't play then so if the golf isn't good take the car for a rag around the track!
