Has anyone played the Championship Course at Carnoustie? If so how tough of a test was it?

Seems to be a lot written about serious rough and deep bunkers that can ruin cards!

Was brought up on it ,dragged around it every weekend with my dad who was a member ,have played it well over 100 times and it is a fanatstic course but fair. i've played it in all conditions and love the place. You can' say your a real golfer until you've played there.

But like any other course you hit a bad shot it will punish you.

Great course but tough if you're not on your game. I played it this year with the wind blowing a wee bit (but not excessively so) and had a bad day with the driver. Lost a couple of balls, hit it in the burn a couple of times and shot 97.... Wasn't happy but still really enjoyed it!

I will be a 'real golfer' come October Steve.:whoo: Really looking forward to playing Carnoustie, but it would be nice if it didn't blow too much !

Played it 3 times.

Not going to score any better than the 76 I shot last time!

Some really great holes. Jocks Burn meanders sufficiently to make a fantastic challenge. 2md Hole is my favourite 2nd hole anywhere! Last played in 2007 and I can remember every hole still!

Agree with the others, brilliant track and a good test of golf.

I have played it loads as one of my mates is a member, best score I have ever had on any golf course 74 blows and even now can remember every shot.

I found it quite pleasant.....some horseshoe fairways that bring your ball nicely back to the centre.

Lots of run and firm fast greens..........I shot 73 scratch is blowey conditions..........had some lunch then carried on and did the back 9:whistle::eek:

Basically it's tough.....über tough if the wind blows......great fun if your playing reasonably well

Hi I am new to the forum and to the game. first handicap was 18 and I do think I am better than this and it is my aim to get to single figures before the end of year. I agree that the limit should be 18, I only started 2 months ago and can play to 18 so I am sure anybody who can take the time to play should be able to do the same.

Someone has been busy since April then!

Or is there another explanation?

Played bounce games as a lad and then did not play for years due to work but joined a club this year and got my first handicap, trust this helps answer you question. You really are up your own you know what are you not, you seem to keep digging holes

we played it last year the day after the Ladies Am champs were held.

The starer asked what our handicaps were and two of the guys are off 1 and 2 , so once they replied he just said playof what ever tee's you like. We played as far back as the white which were the longest on the day as the club champs matchplay was on and played from there two. and that was just over 6900 yards.

Some of the rough looked worse that it was, but if you find the fairways its fairly straight forward.

the hardesy holes i found where from 11 onwards. though 17 was downwind an was a drive and a flick to set up a nice birdie. though down 18 none of us made te drive over the burn, o had to play up and still had a 2 iron in;)

Great course, just stay on the fairway

I played it on Sunday. When I left Aberdeen on the train, it was a beautiful morning. All the way down through Montrose, Arbroath, it was a beautiful morning. Hardly a breath of wind. Stepped off the train in Carnoustie into a a 3-club wind!

It's simply a magnificent golf course with some terrific holes. The only slightly weak one, in my view, is 13, but even that still has it's difficulties. If you're lucky enough to still have a decent score going after 15, the last three holes will really test you. 16 must be the hardest par 3 in all of golf.

The key is to keep it on the fairway off the tee. If you don't, it's easy to rack up a big number. It will be windy, and it will be tough. But it will be brilliant.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. Played it yesterday. My game was a mix of good, bad and ugly!-Didn't shoot a great score but had a good day all the same. Got lucky with the weather as it was warm and dry all day with a bit of a breeze!

Played it two or three times a week over a three year period and found the going tough in comparison to other golf courses.

The real eye opener for me however was the ability of the local golfers - an example is ... 24 man winter league plus six reserves, total handicap of the other five reserves .... THREE!!

Enjoy your golfing experience.
