So Mr Carmichael admits to lying - but it was an OK lie as it was to put focus on the issue being debated (would the SNP prefer A Tory GE win as it would bolster support of the SNP post-election).

He looked extremely angry and uncomfortable when he left the court tonight.
I always thought that he would get away with it as it was a legal issue. [and Carmichael was a respected lawyer

He's admitting he lied to mislead the Commons Enquiry for wider political ends - but pleads not guilty to misleading voters in his Orkney and Shetland seat before the election by lying about his central role in the leak - eh? Ah well. Now we wait for court verdict.

Not quite true. He was found guilty of lying but there was insufficient evidence to prove whether it was a lie to benefit him personally(bad) or a lie to benefit him politically (acceptable).

He still has to face the HoC standards committee but the way they behave down there he will probably get a good conduct medal.
