It may be the red wine, or it may be my age, or it may be something I haven't thought of, but:

I have just stumbled on a production of Carmen on Sky Arts - I am, and never have been an opera fan, but watch this. Carmen is so sexy - OK it is my age talking, but have a look.

I saw this many years ago on stage in Budapest. I was part of a British trade mission and we had group tickets. We had done a full day at an exhibition, the temperature inside the theatre was over 100°C and there was no air con. Add to that it was sung in a language none of us knew. It went on for ages, half the group were asleep and as the curtain fell we left after giving polite applause. A few weeks later someone asked what I thought. I gave a guarded answer as frankly it was not my cup of tea. A sad ending they said, really, they seemed quite happy when we left. Apparently we had left at half time. Ah well, opera, very theatrical but not for me.

English?

I saw it at The Haymarket theatre in Leicester a few years ago and I thought it was brilliant.

I'm not a regular opera watcher and this was the only time I've seen one live but the experience was fantastic.
