Been couple yrs since i held an official handicap so just joined a new club and in the process of getting three cards done..
Last week had an e-mail from the club and it stated that any new comers to the club getting three cards together for handicap should do so from the white tees,i asked in the shop yesterday before going out and was told that i could put three in from the whites which will give more accurate handicap(members can play from whites anytime)or i could put three in from yellows entirely upto me..
Is this normal practice for new handicap or is there something written down for purposes of new handicap that you must play from white tees or yellow tees????

Got my 1st card done yesterday so just thought id check before carrying on with the other 2 as i played from yellow tees..

cheers

I thought You entitled to play from whichever tee you wish provided there is a SSS set up for the Tees although if the club prefer white tees maybe best to do as they ask?

The yellows have a lower SSS, so if you don't play from the whites those shots would be adjusted on to your handicap. Personally I chose to play from the white markers because the white tees were not out. But as distance isn't my problem I didn't want the 2 shots added.

I've handed my cards in after playing off whites. I could have played either but my playing partners are in the Sunday league and it seemed stupid to tee up on different places

You could always clarify with handicap sec explain the conflicting info given he may except you card anyways?
Remember it's the best card that counts too not an average anymore.

The committee can't specify which tees you use, as Duncan advised in a recent thread. They might and probably should specify that you play from whatever you have that marks the measured points on each hole (posts, plates etc) and not just where the tees have been put that day so as to ensure you play the measured course, but they can't impose you use the white tees.

You still have to submit 3 cards, they round any triples and over down to doubles subtract SSS to a handicap for each card, consider any previous history and then should allocate your lowest handicap.

Ahhh ok, thanks for that! I've had 2 cards already, both 23, so nice to know that I can't go any higher than that really if my last card is a stinker! Gutted about getting 23 yesterday, the wind was the strongest I've played in! Was striking the ball well but my natural left to right fade swiftly became a slice on a fair few holes!

Your well on your way then 2 down 1 to go glad you found some markers for your cards.
Did you play off yellows or whites?

I agree Duncan but, curiously, CONGU says "preferably over a measured course".

didn't want to confuse the issue further........ :)

I think this is another example of 'inclusion rules' ie it's more omportant that people can return cards than that they do so from a measured course - just leaves the HS more scope to interpret the result than normal!

Any measured course is perfectly acceptable as already confirmed earlier in this thread.
Hope you bought the next h/cap sec a pint always good to stay the right side of the h/cap sec!
