Anyone know about car insurance?

Until the last couple of years I've always been a company car driver so never had personal car insurance. The last couple of years thats changed though and painful as it was I have had to start from scratch with pretty much zero no claims discount, although I did manage to get some allowance for having been a company car driver.

My renewal is due this week, life being what it is I get rammed on a roundabout on the way home on Friday. :(

No one was hurt and the other party's insurance have accepted 100% liability, the car is away at the auto infirmary so I'll just look at it as one of life's little testers, but do I now lose my no claims discount? Do I have to declare the accident if I want to shop around for an alternative insurer?

SHould keep your no claims but it may be a pain in the neck explaining it to potential future insurers whilst it is all being settled. I have seen no claims bonuses being 'suspended' until the other company actually pays up.

Yes you have to tell any insurance companies that a claim is in place, and until its finalised you may have to pay as though you had no, no claims discount, it might be easier and cheaper to stick with your present insurer until next year.

Yes must declare ....and will cause problems until settled I have a claim outstanding from 19 months ago it will always show as unsetled and insurance companies will class it as a fault cliam until completed ...........

The way I understand it, if the other party pays up, then your NCD should not be affected.
However, with any insurance, it's really important to inform the company who are taking you on of any history, even if it wasn't your fault. Better to always make sure they know anything/everything that they could possibly pick holes in at a later date.
Then again, what do I know? I've only had these issues with other types of insurance, where a company has refused a claim after finding an evil needle in the haystack.
I have heard that some insurers are now getting so finicky that you could be refused a claim for not informing them you made a query about a claim at some point in the past.

Ok, thanks guys. The other party's insurance have arranged for the repairs to my car and stuck me in a hire car at their expense until it's sorted and I have a letter from them saying as much.

The reason for asking is that I had done some preliminary shopping around and could save a few hundred quid by changing to an alternative insurer from who I am with at the moment.

To make matters worse I had to miss my 'comeback' medal comp on Saturday as the car was undriveable!

Your company car insurance,(who ever it may be) should be able to provide you with a no claims discount for the full amount of years you were on the company policy,as for informing any insurance company about an accident,I would tell them everything because like a few have already said..if they can get out of paying a claim..they will.

Sadly, having been involved in an accident, even though it was not your fault, you will have to pay about £40 more on your premium for the next 3 years. You are viewed as a higher risk.

what a farce!!!they are money grabbing barstewards.

you are the one that gets rammed and the other driver accepts full responsibility and yet you are the one who has to pay extra for the next 3 yrs due to being a high risk driver.....wtf!!!

makes no sense to me.

With your company car no claims. Most insurance companies will ask you for a letter from your company stating you have been so many years claim free and they will give you an introductory discount, which is usually the equivalent of 5 years ncb, this is not ncb though and you will build that up until your ncb discount outweighs the intro discount.

Always declare the claim a lot of insurance companies will now do more backround checks than you can imagine then soon as you want to make a claim they will throw that at ya and cancel insurance. It will go down as fault until its fully settled. Which then in turn may mean you get no intro discount from the company car. Once it has been declared non fault the insurance companies will then reimburse you the difference.

had the same problem in 2009, bought new car on sept 1st, rear end shunt on sept 2nd, now when applying for a renewal I advise the insurance company of a non fault claim that has been fullt settled, not noticed any differnce in fees apart from the obvious yearly increase
