I am looking to pull the trigger on some new wheels and have registered interest with a few Germanic dealerships.

As such I have had my exclusive invites to a few VIP type events (oh I feel so special... hmm)

Question to anyone in the know. Is there scope to actually get a good deal above and beyond what I could normally haggle face to face with a dealer? Or are the just blowing smoke up my bum to lure me in?

Having bought many cars over the years and having been invited to so called VIP events and promo's I would say that, whilst often pleasant, such events are rarely beneficial.

You should get a decent deal. Often they'll double the trade in offer, or knock a few grand off if you take a colour and configuration that have ordered or in stock. In my limited experience it's worth it but don't expect anything mind blowing.

Cheers.

I know the car I want and have already got a fairly good deal.

What I wanted to do was spec it up and see if they would chuck in extra toys or deals on maintinence packages etc

Such events are normally packed so you don't get the time you need

As much as it pains me to say, it's about building a relationship with a sales guy that you actually like - having just been lucky enough bough to buy two nearly new bmws it was worth the effort

We ended up with two fantastic deals (both month end) with great service packs etc that took us a couple of months to progress through etc - we sat and waited for such a cracking deal to appear

Also choose a dealer that is part of a national chain or multi dealer sited as it gives an outreach to a huge number of vehicles

Checkout carwow.com where you enter what you are looking to buy and dealers all over the country offer their best deal. I was offered 27% off an XC60.

Done that pal

Managed to get 14% off an Audi S5 Sportback.

Audi direct beat that on a PCP. I just want loads of free kit TBH

In which case you need to build that relationship as they may have a month end deal on a stick car they can squeeze out but ......... I have got to tell you that Audi have really squeaky tight bums and have awful finance and bad offers and you will be lucky to get anything - have always found bmw and Marc to be much more pliable

I did look at the 540i but never went as far as getting prices. Our Fleet team at work have a relationship with Audi so i will ping the account manager an email.

What about jaguar? Think they spec their cars without having to do the optional extras, or is Jag not an option?

Seemed very expensive from looking really.

I like the v6 XK but was put off buy the deals i saw really.

EDIT - just took a look and they still v expensive and the options i fancy are silly money.

Shame really as the R looks lovely

Well bogger me, seat Leicester have had me on and told me I am a valued customer and they would like to invite me to a VIP event.

I've got an XF and I absolutely adore it but you're right they are very expensive.

Be interested to see what you end up with, I'll be replacing the Jag next year and I don't think I can afford another so will be looking at BMW/Merc, lack of rear wheel drive puts me off Audi.
