Car buying- haggling

Haggling isn't something that comes naturally to me. Being in my 30s, I've been brought up with price comparison websites for everything. However, when it comes to the humble car, I haven't much experience of buying.

Going to be buying a Fiesta, 18 months old, low mileage for under £9k. I reckon that's good value and I'd happily pay that.

However, what would discounts/perks would a haggler expect to receive? Also, I'm doing PCP if that helps.
 
Find a similar price/spec car as a backup and don’t be afraid to walk away from this one if you don’t get the deal your after. However I’m us2 buying second hand cars with cash so not sure if you can haggle on a loan?!

I once got a really good deal when the salesman assumed I was paying on the drip and when the price was right I said I would take it and paid cash.
I have noticed that it is the first thing they ask now. :(

Not sure what the current state is, but it used to be considerably more profitable for the dealer to sign someone up for a loan than (simply) to sell them the car!

So getting a 'deal' on the purchase price could be beneficial to both. Mind you, Fiestas are in relatively high demand, so the dealer might not be too keen to 'deal'!
 
If the dealer knows the Fiesta is your preference he may be harder to haggle with. I always go in with, "I've narrowed it down to 3(?) cars. Convince me to buy the Fiesta." Then see what he has to say. Don't be afraid to walk away if he doesn't convince you. He may well ring you later. Equally, if you're set on the Fiesta you'll pretty much take what he offers, if anything.
 
Say you'll have finance even if you aren't. Then start by expecting 10% off.

Put a small amount on loan then settle early. Its a good idea to pay some by credit card because you get extra protection on CC purchases up to £30k.

Get HP clearance check for loans and accident damage even when buying from a dealer.
 
Really depends on the dealer. When I have had a dealer not prepared to offer extras or discount I normally walked away.
Last secondhand car I bought (2016) I got the cost of fitting a tow bar, 2 years servicing, a full tank of fuel and a years road tax included in the price, not a great deal but the car was already at a real bargain price compared to the books.
 
If you can get the Reg number, punch it into webuyanycar.com, just to see their valuation. It'll give you a rough price to haggle on.
BTW you manage to haggle handicaps no probs, lol
 
Walking away is key....On my last purchase I walked away 3 times from the same dealership over a period of 3 weeks. I told them straight up what I was prepared to pay and they laughed in my face initially. Always called back in to discuss (negotiate further). After letting me know countless times how they had to turn the world over a few times they eventually found a way of selling the car at the price I started out with (roughly 22% of a new car)

Always negotiate on and on and on and when your done on some more
