Had something similar last summer on my daughters car, cost £300 to get it repaired and the panels painted at a local bodyshop.

Did you revisit the club secretary to inform him of this?
Where in Kent are you, I know an excellent body man near Plumstead? Also theres another a few miles from Maidstone thats a VW specialist if it's one of those or group.
