Captain's day rained off could have a knock on effect.

It should have been Captains day competition for the men today but the incessant rain has flooded the greens and so it is off. The captain is due to go into hospital at the end of the month so it is being suggested that it should be held next Saturday instead so he will be able to attend.
The only problem is that next Saturday is club championship day, which in turn will have to be moved causing more problems, This summer really has bene a pain.

This has now been confirmed, Captain's Day next week, no date for re arranged Club Championship yet.

This does make me wonder which is the most important competition, in my mind it is the Club Championship, although I know far fewer people play in it than Captains day.

Its tough as a captains day often makes a lot of money for a charity and loads of takings for the club. Members who are rarely seen often come out of the woodwork for a captains day.

On the other hand the club champs is the pinnacle competition for the calendar, the best players at the club battling it out.

Who should win? Charity or Competition?

In which case I'd have kept the championship and moved the Captain's Day until he's out of hospital and fit enough to play/run and enjoy the day

The chance of me winning is very slim, the same 5 handicapper has won it for the last 5 years.

With proper perspective club golfers should understand the club championship is really not that important, a BOARD victory or MAJOR, Individual events for individuals ego.

Whichever event involves most members should be given priority

Club Champs are nice especially if you win, but those competitors must understand for the CLUB, the comp with most involvement must always be regarded as the more important.


From the clubs I have played at it would also be easier to re organise the Club Champs (Take 1 medal score v 2 or add previous best score etc) let players organise early rounds and set aside a day for semis and finals..
