Hi all,

I've done a search, but either this site's search function isn't able to use " " or +, or I don't know how to search properly.

I need a course with hotel on site, ideally with 36 holes, no more than two hours from Westerham, playing a Friday and Saturday, dinner, B&B and 18 holes each day, in May or maybe June 2014, for a max of £170 per person.

I've got The Grove, Dale Hill, Mannings Heath and East Sussex National on the list, but I'm sure there's others. Don't think much of Marriot Tudor, so I've discounted that, Forest of Arden is too far psychologically for some members (for some unknown reason!) and Foxhills want more for 1 night than 2 nights?!?!

Does anyone have any thoughts on London Beach golf club? Is it any good?

Thanks in advance, folks.

I would recommend East Sussex National. 2 very good courses and they do some good deals. We did a similar thing last year (Although we always do Sunday/Monday as its a lot cheaper and less busy).

For the cost you have available you could afford Woodhall Spa,which would be well worth the journey.

St Mellion also offer some very good deals!

Definitely not London Beach! I won't bore you with the reasons.

I'd go East Sussex or The Grove through choice.

My money would be going to Brocket Hall. Have never played there before but have heard it's the mutts....
I tried to get this years "Old Farts v Whippersnappers" match there but was effed around by the booking agency, not the club itself. So if I were planning a visit again I would book direct

Thanks thus far.

We went to East Sussex National last year, and it was fantastic, but I thought I'd see what else is out there. More than happy to go back to ESN, as it was top drawer!

MendieGK, both Woodhall Spa and St Mellion are too far away, but I agree that both would have been fantastic.

Chris, if you don't want to publicly state the reasons, please feel free to bore me with a PM. I'm really hoping The Grove's quote comes back as a good 'un.

Rob, Brocket is superb, but will be a little out of price range, and the hotel's too small.

Kep 'em coming though, please.

I would be amazed if the grove get any where near your price point. It's 180 a round, without the hotel rooms, or food. This would give two rounds, a room, two lots of food, all for a price cheaper than one round of golf.

Good luck!

I will be extremely surprised if the Grove comes back with a quote in your budget as they charge around £160 per round. Decent course but not worth that kind of money, it is yet another of the many big money 'lets turn a farm into a golf course' type of ventures.

In your budget, check out some of the deals on yourgolftravel.com I'm sure you will find something suitable there

edit: Murph just beat me to it.

I'd sort of seen it, but not registered! May do the Sunday/Monday, as it's £160.

I can up the budget somewhat, it's just I thought I'd start here at £170. I do understand what you and Murph are saying though - it's a long shot!

Good luck with it, the course is decent (although overrated in my opinion) but I've heard the hotel is very nice so worth asking

ESN would be the obvious choice for me - if you've ruled Foxhills out.

Grove or Brockett are likely to be very expensive, though there's possibility of deals.

Eh? The hotel can accommodate up to 30 people! We were going to hold the old farts v whippersnappers week-end there!
And too expensive? Have you tried???
Westerham really must be scraping the bottom of the social barrel this year

Basically it's a 9 hole course with 9 extra tees

Not somewhere that you'd want to have a prestige meet and miles apart in quality from the other courses you listed

Just a warning about Foxhills. Played there in April and the greens were the worst I have played on for years. Might be better now of course, but be warned !

Au contraire, Smiffy! We've got at least 32 coming, maybe 36, and some of them won't share a room, and some are couples who have to share a room, so I'd discounted it.

Plus, from memory, Brocket Hall is pricey for drinks in the bar. Is this not true?

Maybe I should check again though.

Also, I should add that in March (not last year as I mentioned), 45 of us went to ESN for £134 per person, which was a bargain! Plus drinks were very reasonable.

I'd have loved to have done Foxhills. However, they want £179 for two nights golf, dinner, B&B, but £199 for 1 night???

Bizarre!! But why not book for 2 nights then leave after one? :D

Not especially imo - but certainly not cheap.

The Grove on the other hand is particularly expensive.

@Bratty. Why not consider Foxhills for the 2 nights, but only actually stay the one? Classic piece of Foxhills-ism though! Go for the June dates too - weather more likely to be good - as it does (or used to) have a tendency to get soggy after prolonges wet weather.

Good info, Foxholer, thanks. I did think of that, but wasn't sure they'd try and fleece us for the extra if we tried to leave early!

I need to try and stick to May if possible, so will just have to pray for good weather.
