Cape verde

Not been but I saw a travel programme on it a few years ago. Still looked very raw and there always seemed to be a strong wind. Enjoy if you go but perhaps one to do a bit of research on before pressing the button. Apologies if you already have and this seems patronising.

Just looking for ideas for a Sept holiday and don't fancy the med.
Probably canaries or even Madeira, though I'm told I'm too young for there.

Ha ha. Yes, you have to be over 65 to go to Madeira. In your shoes I would stick to the main Canary Islands and leave Cape Verde to develop a bit further.

September is still warm so you have most of Europe to choose from. Croatia seems to be gaining in popularity, looks lovely and I have yet to hear a bad word about it. Can't give a recommendation there but may be worth investigating if you fancy something a little different.

I went to Sal with the missus last August. We stayed in Riu Funana and it was very nice. It's pretty much you standard all inclusive affair. Big complex, fairly decent food, fairly decent drink. The weather was fantastic, really hot but the breeze took the edge off it. I think earlier in the year it can get very windy though.

The hotel we stayed at is actually 2 hotels which are exact mirrors of each other, and they share all of their facilities. I can't remember the name of the other but the prices for the 2 can vary. Go for the cheapest as they are identical.

The beaches are stunning. Soft golden sand and very nice sea (unless the wind gets up then it can be a bit rough unless you're adventurous).

There is not a lot to do on the island although the main town has a few nice bars and restaurants.

Overall if you're looking for a straight forward relaxing all inclusive, where you don't really do much, it's decent. There are better places to go, but when we went it was very good value and certainly worth the money.

We went to Riu Touareg 2 years ago and it was great. Lovely hotel, but upgrade to adults only area as it is less crowded round the pool and you get access to a posher restaurant - not that the buffet food was bad. As previously mentioned, the island doesn't have much to do but if you just want to relax in the sun it is great. take mozzie cream though as these could be a pest in the evenings.

Perivale/Algarve, take your bats and your sorted.

you can close the thread now 😁

Cape Verde is excellent sure it was a riuhotel I stayed at staff are great and friendly food was good and the weather was great, sadly they stopped the flights from Glasgow so I would need to fly from Manchester. It's good for a relaxing holiday nice beach however there is not much to do out the resort, but I would go back
