Can't sleep - how many courses can you recall every hole?

While getting off sleep last night rather than counting sheep I tried to see how many courses I could walk round all 18 in my head. Turned out to be only 8 (Mortonhall, North Berwick,The Glen, Greenock, Ratho Park, Skye, Baberton & Swanston).

How many do you have stored away in the grey matter ? - no cheating by looking up scores cards etc.
 
to be honest i would think i could probably remember almost every hole on about 50-60 courses. Its ridiculous how much i remember about golf. i could still take you through good rounds i've had about 3 years ago!

I used to be able to remember most courses I had played but since playing over 500 courses I can barely remember a full course.

I always thought if I could remember the full course then its one I have really enjoyed but after playing so many good courses I struggle to remember all 18 holes. I always remember 13/14 holes.
 
Apart from my home course ? not many to be fair..

Thats about it as I usually forget the holes around the turn (and its probably where I switch off on an 18hole round)

It may also be linked to my home course being a 9-holer

500! Clearly too much time on your hands, I'm barely over 10% of that!
 
Could probably just about manage the course I am a member of...
Maybe my Dad's club and my father in law's club if I really thought hard about it.
 
That used to be the sign of a good course.........if you could remember every hole a month after you had played it.

Nowadays it is only the good ones, or courses where I was a member.
Probably a between 20 to 25.

Ditto. I've played nearly 70 courses in my time and could probably remember all the holes on the majority of them.
 
I struggle to remember the holes of a new course almost as soon as I walk off the course. Maybe half dozen courses out of many hundred plus I can remember and these are the ones I've been a member of or played loads of times. So - Deaconsbank, East Renfrewshire, Dunkeld & Birnam, Pitlochry, Filton and Farnham. That's it I think.
 
For some reason I can remember all the holes on pretty much every heathland courses I have played, however i struggle to remember every hole on the classic links courses I have played such as Muirfield, Royal Birkdale & Royal County Down.
 
I can remember most holes on most courses I've played on - on my home course I can almost remember every shot played after a round and have this running through my mind when trying to get off to sleep sometimes

Yeah every shot and what club can easily recalled from a days golf.

shows exactly how powerful the mind is.


Try to recall a phone number and it can often be a chore. The story behind the round allows you to recall sometimes over 100 shots. This is how people recall a deck of cards as far as I know. They assign each card to some part of a story.
