Lots of indentations on greens at the moment and an incident occured which made me contemplate whether I had given the right advice.
My oponent marked his ball on the green in the normal way but when he went to replace it it kept rolling off the spot as soon as he let it go.
We looked at the green and it definately wasn't a pitch mark causing it but rather looked like a heal print from a previous match.
My logic was to replace the ball as near the marker as possible - no nearer the hole in a position where it didn't move when released.
My logic was that if they played from the original position they would have played from the wrong place. They couldn't repair the mark a it wasn't a pitchmark. Only option was to replace as near as posible to original position so it didn't move. Was I correct?
