Played today and my driving was excellent, all my irons were pretty good, Wedges pretty decent also,
Putting? I might as well of been putting with a frozen hotdog.

Sadly this is not the first time Ive felt this way with my putter and I dont know what to do about it.
Everything was short short , Yes I know just to hit it harder but it doesn't work that way does it.

Anyone got any tips? Ill try anything right now

Cheers

Anyone who isn't totally cack handed can learn to putt half decently. Loads of stuff on the net. I think the Dave Stockton stuff is very good. Get a reliable grip and method then learn to calibrate your pace with drills on the practice green.

Ive never had a single lesson with anything to do with golf, Handicap is now at 8

Not sure of the relevance of handicap but the fastest way to dramatically improve poor putting is to get a good professional to look at what you are doing and explain what you should change and work on.

From there I agree with Ethan that with the correct fundamentals in place it's a matter of working away at the appropriate drills for continued marginal gains - eventually with such reducing returns that you decide to play more and practice less.

Practice and maybe a lesson. There are no short cuts to being a decent putter

Indeed! My second (out of two) is to never try and swing in an arc, always TRY and swing straight. You may have a natural arc yes (which is fine BTW) BUT you will always be straight through the hitting area if you try to be straight. If you try to follow an arc you will push and pull lots!

In other words TRYING to swing a putter on an arc leads to the "Garden Gate" effect, whereas trying to swing straight you arc naturally but hit square.

Those are two points I would tell anyone I was showing how to putt.

I am a streaky putter at best. Have really good months and then awful months. When I practice its on but when it slide its off which is understandable. All I need is some drills for the practice ground before my round and for the weeknights! Any insight?

I'm a terrible putter. Felt like I made some good progress playing in Spain, but since getting back I've putted awfully. 3 rounds in a row with over 2 putts per hole so have decided to commit some serious time this winter to improving my putting. I've bought a Welling Putt mat which I love so far and going to read in a book or two and see how much I can improve.

would take the time so have a go at a Dr Paul Hurrion drill {guess many folks already know he's a putting expert on your side of the pond, developed the Quintic system, there is one at Pebble)
