I have recently been tempted with a few bargains on fleabay.
Nice pictures of the item, good condition and no reserve.
Woo hoo :)
Then you discover the item is in Poole or Inverness AND THE BUYER COLLECTS???
Ok, I understand if it was a cooker or a 3 piece suite, but on smaller items???
Now don't get me wrong, Poole and Inverness are lovely places but having no postage is crazy.

Surely that limits your target market massively?

Agreed, crazy strategy.
I saw a set of mp62's with no reserve, 1 day to go, still under £75, collect ONLY from N Ireland.

Should have asked and we could have sorted something out, there must be enough folks on here dotted about the country to help each other out.

I thought about that.
1. Pay for the item
2. Ask someone from here to collect (arranged beforehand obviously)
3. Meet up somewhere half way to collect goods and perhaps get a game of golf in .

Win win:)

sounds like a good idea, it is annoying when a right bargain is collect only. I have driven a decent way for the odd steal (my panasonic 42" plasma, 2 yr old, 3k new, picked it up for £150 from worthing sussex... about a 200 mile round trip)

Although it's a pain, I'm not suprised that people sell stuff with buyer to collect as the only option, especially with fragile or higher value items.

With PayPal only caring about protecting it's own bank balance, it's very easy to get shafted, by people claiming items were broken, not as described or missing parts etc...
Once people have been caught out once, or had a 'friend of a friend' who got ripped off, it's not suprising that trust is lost.

Agree with Surefire, however, if you want something shipped, then companies like Parcelmonkey will pick up from anywhere and deliver to your door. All the seller has to do is wrap them up..

I guess some people don't want to go to the trouble of packaging things up (and in some cases dealing with the hassle of items being damaged in transit).

I suppose you could always ask the seller if it would be OK for you to arrange your own courier to collect the items from them, but then there is still the packaging issue. I don't know if there are any couriers that provide a packing and collection service?

Anything fragile I sell I usually quote a higher postage cost which I know will more than cover the cost of sending it (including materials) and then use insured postage options. Never had a problem. The one time someone claimed the item was damaged on arrival I asked them to send me photos of the damage. Never heard from them again.
