Can you really monitor your scores during the Winter?

I have played today and whilst my greens in regulation results were good I 3-putted on 6 holes! The amount of 3-4 footers that I missed today was shocking, there were more dimples than a 14 year olds face! In one instance a straight as a die putt from 20ft was going straight in and took a shocking turn 6" from the hole.

Can you really monitor your scores during the Winter?

I've recorded my stats for 12 years and never record anything other than gross hole scores off season (october to march).

GIR is irrelevant if on winter greens, putting is also a bit of a lottery. I only record the gross score so I can look back and see how much golf I actually played during each winter.

Well, we have full greens, so score watching is not so silly. If I can go round with a certain number of putts (not too bad a number) then I'm taking the positives from that. If they are deeply tined and like crazy golf, I put it down to condition, not the bloke with the putter!!

I always "think" about my game afterwards. Yesterday I hit a few greens when I should have been through the back (squidgy pitch marks) but then again, I clubbed up all the way around.

In reality probably not. However we don't have winter greens, though to call them up to summer scratch would be pushing it a bit. Some of the teeing areas are off matts, some holes slightly shorter some slightly longer. Fairway grass is slightly longer, and some of the areas in front of the greens are decidedly 'boggy'.

At the end of the day, it's still a round of golf, and my handicap is adjusted by every weekend competition.

Because of this, I still record my stats on SS2. Lets face it; a hook is a hook, regardless of conditions.

Horses for courses I guess.

I always record my rounds just so I know where I am with things like hitting fairways etc. Even off a winter amt you still have to put it on the short stuff. I am fairly subjective with the putting stats and normally put a note on if the greens are in poor condition and have contributed to a number of extra putts

No, from clock change to clock change, zip is zip. Any golf is just club waving and walking.

I take it you don't play then..... :)

I like to stay on top of my game (or close) for the start of the spring.

Official Monitoring, NO! but monitor yourself, or be monitored by others, of course you can. You can still take the same kind of shots other than putting, so you can monitor how well you play in that respect, however if you are the kind of person to dismiss a golfing ability just because its in winter your not going to see it.

I only record my stats if we are on full greens.
I think all the stats are relevent in winter apart from putting.

I agree, a GIR is a GIR. If I hit a dodgy drive that would have gone for the trees like an exocet had it not plugged, then I don't count it as a fairway hit....

All through November to the end of February I don't monitor stats. It is usually the time for some fun (greensomes, skins, betterball golf an' all that) and so my decision making is different. Also I'm using that time to practise any swing changes I'm working on.
If I was thinking about stats too then it wouldn't work for me. Come March 1st, then I go stats mad and Medal rules.
