Hey Guys

Am new to the forum so thought I'd pitch in as I'd like your opinions on the optimum amount to play in a week. I currently manage to get 2 rounds of 18 and 3 9 holes in per week. I'm not sure if playing this regularly is a help or a hindrance to my game.

Can you play too often?

I depends on the person. For me, twice a working week would be enough although I only manage 1 round plus occasionally a range session. When I'm off for a week I tend to play 3 times (weekend, midweek, weekend).

I just don't want to overdo it and find myself playing for the sake of it. I enjoy heading to the course and think the novelty might fade if going to the same place more than I needed

I find this too. When the swing goes take a few days off hit the practice area. I have played myself into a rut at times

Tbh mate if I'm playing alot & playing poor,I put the clubs away for a wk or 2 & don't even practice. Usually does the job.

too often for what?

there's another thread about the subject in general on here currently, but it (and your's) don't really address this question.

apart from physical damage, and the reinforcement of poor habits, the more you play the more you experience and therefore the more you can learn. to complete this constructive cycle you need guidance (lessons), focused practice and constructive play (on course). one lesson, one round and 1000 practice shots should, with putting work, be about right as a daily routine - but it's won't feel like fun (to anyone but Homer) so my sugestion would be to play at a level that remains fun and doesn't strain other committments.
