Hi all,

Anyone know if you can get a slow puncture fixed in a car tyre? I know you cant if you it has actualy deflated but this just goes soft alot and needs pumping up every few days. If you can, any idea on cost?

thanks alot

Al

Yes. Costs around £10-£15 IIRC.

It depends where abouts on the tyre the puncture is though.

As long as it's not on or near the sidewall, it should be repairable.

yes you can as had a puncture last week and he tried to repair it (sadly the tyre wall was knackered). they drill a hole in the tyre where it is, put a patch plug in thru the hole and seal it off - dont know what it costs had to buy a new one in the end here

Unless the tyre is pretty new, they will try to sell you another one.
If the puncture is in the middle of the tread, it can be mended easily, if it is any where near the side wall, they won't do it.

I get nails in mine all too often. I pay £17 for a repair.
The last one I wasn't so lucky....it was 90% worn, so I got a new pair. £17 became £137. :(

Ye its a Michelin and has some life left in it. I dont want to do what my wife does and have 4 different brands on the 4 corners so if I go and they say I have to replace it I will have to do both fronts. I really dont want to do that as there is life in both tyres.

Just for future reference, when buying new tyres, try etyre.co.uk and blackcircles.com

You buy them online and take them to a local garage to get fitted. Usually saves a few quid.

It might be just the valve that has a leak? they can fit a new one.

Sadly not, I spat on the valve and it did not bubble, that would be a nice cheep fit.

Its not matter, It has to be done, im just being cheep so I can spend my money on golf and not the car.

Another common cause of tyre leakage is corrosion on the rims of alloy wheels. If this is the case, break the bead of the tyre, clean the rim and use a gasket sealer or similar between the rim and tyre.

National tyres do good insurance, I think kwik fit do it now too.

Costs about an extra fiver per tyre fitted new, then if you get a puncture that cannot be repaired you get a new tyre less percentage of cost(wear and tear value by mileage).

If you get lots of punctures, or have expensive tyres well worth it.
