To start with, this in not about TM.

For those people who are on Twitter, do you think that it is possible for a company or their representative to go too far with the marketing hyperbole.

Over the last week I have seen the representative of a golf company make statements to the following effect:

1. It would be negligent of a pro to sell you anything other than this product.
2. A pro does not care about your game if he sells you anything else other than this company’s product.
3. All of the competition are ‘gimmick copies’ of their product.
4. You are not serious about your golf if you buy any of the other products on the market as opposed to this one.

Anyone think that this is taking it a bit far to say the least, the pro being negligent or not caring about your game being particularly harsh in my mind. I was not a fan of the company in the first place (and this may taint my view) but this sort of rhetoric would put me off rather than attract me to buying their products.

Anyone want to hazard a guess who the company was.

Is it Garmin by any chance ?

Our pro has stopped selling their watches because of their poor customer services

That kind of marketing is being conducted by a company/individual who doesn't understand how marketing works. It's a hardcore sales technique that may scare people into buying but it will never lead to customer loyalty. And that means - long term - the company is shooting itself in the foot. Idiotic.

I worked in medical sales for a while and our first training day was run by someone who had a very aggressive spiel.
I told him that if he had come onto my ward ( i used to be a nurse) and came out with that ....nonsense, he would be shown the door and told not to come back.

I saw it and thought it was way OTT and I am a SC user. If I was in the market for an upgrade or an SC model then that would put me off and even if they brought something super duper in the future I'd be unlikely to look at it or buy it as I don't like being aggressively sold to (whatever the product)

its only aggressive if you believe it and buy into it!!!

Rubbish! Aggressive is aggressive whether you buy into it or not!

It's only successful if you buy into it! And it would be unsuccessful with me!

Sure, if there's a USP, stress that. But market your product; don't abuse your customers or supply chain!

Anybody who has worked in advertising or marketing should know that there are several fundamentals you just do not break.

1. Always be professional
2. Always retain your credibility
3. Never knock the competition
4. Always be professional

I would sack who ever released those statements

Spot on, apparently it is negligent for pros to sell other GPS systems as they do not walk the course like skycaddie do

So what. Do garmin, Tom tom , et al 'walk the roads and motorways, I suspect not. Skycaddie are just about the only ones left with a subscription service, I for one would not buy them for that reason.

Ps- do the Americans send a foot solider to map the route of a Sam missile before they launch it ( maybe they should employ skycaddies and they wouldn't blow up the wrong target quite so often)
