Played in a medal knockout comp tonight and prevailed with a net 68. Pleased on particular with the front 9 and my driving was bang on.

Anyway, this was a head to head medal knockout, off the white tees but I'm unsure if I can be cut as a result, as it's not the usual Saturday qualifier? How does it work? No info in the comp details either way but a cut would be nice, albeit a small one. Standard scratch at our place is usually 69.

Cut or not, through to the 2nd round!

Thanks

Do you mean you were playing Matchplay?

Seems like a Match of 'Best overall Nett (or maybe Gross)'

So cannot be used for handicap - which is a Strokeplay measurement. You couldn't (pre-)declare the round as a Supplementary either as you cannot mix Matchplay and Strokeplay in a single round - there are significant Rules differences, so DQ and Loss if you try!

Edit: I take it back! Matchplay is hole by hole. That 'match' is Strokeplay!

But unless declared as a Supplementary beforehand, then no cut - as not under 'qualifying competition' conditions.

I guess will depend on if the card is entered into the system and it is classed as a qualifier ?

You are asking the wrong people!

Played to stroke play rules over a measured course the results could have been used for handicapping but the basis of the competition has to be declared prior to the first person teeing off ie qualifying or non-qualifying. As it's a competition round, if it's declared as non-qualifying you cannot play it as a supplementary (this CONGU rule is based on the expectation that if it could be Q it would be - but of course sometime committees do different things!).

Given that it's a drawn multi round competition I wouldn't think it would be run as a qualifier - even if each round was played together.

What a strange format for a knock-out. Certainly different! Would be curious to know if this is a new thing, an old comp that's been changed to this format or has always been like this? Can't see it being much fun either if you rack up a couple of really bad holes early on. Anyway, as above, it would be difficult to see how this would be deemed a qualifier with such a small "field" .....I assume the matches for each round take place over different days. Your good play could be used as evidence for a general play cut though should you manage a few good scores over time.

I've played this format in the past. It's actually not so bad because even if you fall a long way behind one blowout hole by your opponent can bring you right back into it.

My first time playing it and I really enjoyed it. Nice to build a round whilst also playing with a matchplay frame of mind. I'm a fan.
