Can golf clubs feel too soft?

As many will know, I've been reworking my swing ( boring!).

Despite my best efforts, I still hit the ball stupidly high.

I currently play Nike pro combo cb, with dynamic gold r300 xp (I think). These are ridiculously quiet to hit, leading to the belief that they are soft as.... A very soft thing. ( avoiding the buttery theme, which is naff, in the extreme). a good shot feels soft as, and is nearly silent, just a gentle squish.

So I thought, as an experiment, I'd have a go with my old Macgregor 1025M muscle backs, with S300 shafts. They are a tad short, as they aren't 1 /2" longer, and the lie angles are all to pop, but a good strike felt really solid. Not particularly soft, but not harsh, but just solid. Nice, solid, no jelly babies, no buttery rubbish, just nice.

It made me think......

Flight was still stupidly high though.

Personally I love the jelly baby feel, it's one sure way to get I stand feedback from the quality of strike.

That and flight are the two best feedback factors for me.

Personal thing surely, if you prefer a firmer feel and the click then yes it can feel too soft, not sure whilst rebuilding your swing is the right time to be considering it though. Ultimately ball flight and shaft choice are more important imo

It's not really a click, it's more to do with a thud, rather than a squish!

Are they Dynalight XP? I had them in my MP 53 in S300. High launch and although they were S300 they felt softer then the Dynamic Gold SL R300 I use now.

They do, for sure. It's one of the things I'm trying to change, but it's ridiculously hard to do. Been trying for two years, and am having another concerted effort now.

This may be worth a try:

Imagine your club has no loft and there is a nail tacked into the back of the ball just above its equator and sticking up at around 20 deg (10 deg with longer clubs). When you take a swing imagine you want to drive the nail right into the ball and clip an imaginary tee peg pushed down into the grass around two inches infront.

I know it needs a bit of imagination but if you completely let go of any other swing thoughts and only focus on the above task it should get you making better contact. The hard part is committing to letting go all other swing thoughts.

is it not the casting of the club and so rel the clubhead before it gets to the ball adding loft, its what i do with my wedges sort of helping the ball in the air?

Not that this thread is just about the Dynamic gold XP shaft but I did abit of research when I was buying my Nike Pro Combo CB irons as they come with the Dynamic Gold XP shaft as standard and I was worried it would launch too high...

The above thread was the best one I could find and True Temper themselves also add some valuable information on the shaft in question as it's not even on there website.

As for me I love the feel I get from the shaft/head combo when hit pure and I have the same irons as murph. My ball striking has also improved greatly since upgrading to the Nikes.
