Just wondering that if you shoot a good round in a society event, will it effect your handicap. Talking to a mate who said he sometimes hands his good cards in from a society I used to play at to get cuts at his local club. Can you even do this? it is a comp but not off comp tees?

I depends on your h/cap sec.
If you want to get cut then hand them in, it can't do any harm , especially if you're doing it on a regular basis.
If it wasn't off the white tees and your CatI, forget it.
Cat I has to be of competition tees.

Scores returned from societies are specifically mentioned as not acceptable as a qualifying score in the CONGU rules. There is no requirement to run any competition off the competition/white tees. Any competition is a valid qualifying score provided it is 9 or 18 holes and is a measured course with a SSS assessed.

Society scores and the like can be used as evidence for a general play adjustment but there would need to be several backed up by other evidence etc.

as per the last post!

I also asked this question on another forum.

Society Events are treated as non qualifing. Unless its very well run society as is Congu registered.

Q. Clause 23.7 of the CONGU UHS states that 'In exceptional circumstances the Handicap Committee may adjust the handicap of a player in the period between Annual Reviews if there is compelling evidence that his Exact Handicap does not reflect his current playing ability'.

What are 'exceptional circumstances'?
A. Circumstances that may be regarded as 'exceptional' include:

Impaired golfing ability resulting from extended illness or injury.
The need to correct a handicap that was allocated at an inappropriate level.
The return of a series of good scores in Qualifying Competitions within a short timeframe by a hitherto infrequent competitor.
A number of, probably three or more, good playing performances in Non Qualifying competitions by a player who otherwise may not participate with any regularity in Qualifying Competitions. Examples of Non-Qualifying competitions may include Mixed Foursomes, Four-Ball Better Ball events, Corporate and Society days, at the discretion of each Union/Association. The specific examples, of acceptable Non-Qualifying events to be used, is left to each Unions/Associations to decide as they wish.

So its very unlikely you will get a cut from a society day unless your not playing in your club comps.
