Calling all auto electricians.

I have a car with stop/go technology and I want to give the battery a boost.
Most google searches suggest this can't be done with an ordinary battery charger but a local dealer said it can.
I'm a bit confused and I don't want to lunch my battery as replacements are not that cheap.
Any definitve advice you guys can give me?
Somehow I trust golfers more than I do main dealers!

I have a trickle charger that I use for the motorcycle that you just plug in and it keeps the battery topped up, is that what you mean or have I misunderstood? Something like this
