Callaway XR16 Driver

Anyone bought one since launching last week?

What the opinions? Is it an upgrade over current XR?

Slightly cynical answer is that no new driver is probably worth upgrading to if you have the previous version, unless you are a tour pro who is paid millions of pounds to game the latest driver from your club sponsors. I am sure it is slightly improved as they all are in some small way, but not worth spending money on if you have the previous version.

But then again that is based on nothing more than prejudice and hearsay, so someone who has upgraded may well offer a more informed opinion.;)

I have an X2 Hot driver and this time last year went to Callaway for a fitting. Last years XR wouldn't go better than the X2 Hot, they then said their claims of more distance are always based on the model 2 back. If that's true the new XR16 should be longer than the X2 Hot

They did say that most of the of their competitors go back 3 models for their added distance claims

A local clubfitter of very high repute has stopped doing Callaway gear because the last couple of iterations of drivers have delivered no performance improvements at all. He was fed up of people coming for a fitting for the latest gear and getting no benefit from the new club compared to the previous model, or indeed the one before that.

Ye pretty interesting, I had an x2hot myself but have just picked up a Cobra Fly Z.

So far it's been a definete improvement, seems way more forgiving that the x2hot and just seems like it wants to go straight on every shot

Playing of the winter tees at the moment in wet conditions so will be able to see if there is any distance gains once it drys up a bit and we get back to the yellow tees

I really hate callaway drivers especially the way they look. However, on our recent agm we had a longest drive comp at the range and i was bombing this further than my sldr. i was impressed. i was in the market for a new driver as my sldr and m1 was stolen out of my garage. I would definitely consider this driver
