Until last week I had never even tried a Callaway driver let alone thought of buying one…
Had a custom fitting where I tried quite a few different makes of driver and I thought for a change I would go with the best performance rather than how the club sit up to my eye.
The Callaway HX Hot Pro came out tops on spin and Launch angle not forgetting the all important carry distance which for me was a good 15 yards further than all the other brands.
I used the club for the first time on Saturday in a club competition, unfortunately it was a very windy day on the links upwards of 30MPH, but driving wise I could not fault the performance. It gave a very penetrating ball flight and a good bit of run, despite our fairways looking very green and lush, due to the club using the fairway sprinkler every night for the last 3 weeks.
The club has a smaller head than the ordinary model and sits very well behind the ball and the silver grey finish looks quite classy. The face and looks good in contrast with the silver grey. Adjustment wise, im not a tinkerer so the Closed, Open and neutral are about as much as I’d want, but I suspect it will stall on the N setting for the foreseeable future anyway.
Shaft wise I got it in a Project X 6.0pxv and I believe that comes as one of the standard shafts. If felt stable and has plenty of feedback, with a nice penetrating flight not unlike the shaft in my last driver. The head cover is quite stylish too mostly black with white accents on the side.
The thing that really sold me on this driver was I played in the Moray and Nairn League on Sunday against a guy from Moray Old off 6, who was using a Titleist 910 and I easily outdrove this lad despite him being 20 years my junior and had a good swing. He even asked me what driver it was, I was using!!!
6 and 5 my the way
All in all a very good driver and easy to hit and shape and a pleasing look behind the ball at set up.
To anyone looking to get a new driver, give this one a serious look.
