I wanted opinions on the Callaway square driver. I have saved enough money to afford one, but as a relativily new golfer (18 months off 22) I thought i would seek some feedback. Will it really help if you fail to square the clubface at impact? Is it all hype?
I really want to be able to use a driver and I will be getting lessons in september when I join a new club (relocating with work).

Any thoughts or advise grateful.

Foreleft, never tried one personally but I would look to the Pros, square drivers have been around for a year or two now and I dont see the Pro's clamouring for them.
Manufacturers have to re-invent the wheel to make us punters part with our hard earned cash all the time. Dont buy into their bulls&%t.
Buy a good driver second hand from Golfbidder or your local golf shop and spend the rest you've saved on a holiday or some lessons which will help your game much more.

If you are really set on a square driver and you haven't been playing the game that long, try buying one of the cheaper versions like the Hippo hexagonal one for a quarter of the price. As birdieman says, spend the rest on lessons as the best equipment can only help you if you know how to use it correctly first.

Hippo hexagonal is a quality driver for the money and spend the money saved on a lesson programme with your Pro.

As a relative beginner off 22 handicap you should be looking for a driver that will suit you present game but also give you scope for improvement. I recommend that you don't buy anything until you have tried a few on the course. This can be done by consulting you local Pro' and trying out some of his demo' drivers. Also take his advice and instruction.

Mate of mine has the callaway. It is straighter than his old Titleist 905, but 30 yards shorter. Not a particularly good swap if you ask me.

Another mate has the Nike square. Awesome distance and very straight. F***ing horrible noise, and ugly as sin. Not a bad deal now they do it with the Aldila shaft as an option.

Thanks for the feedback.

I tried a couple of 3 woods on the range and course and seemed to get more consistant distance and direction then drivers. Perhaps at 22 handicap I will be better off sticking to a decent 3 wood and wait a while for my swing to improve before spending too much time and money on a driver.

Great feedback thanks!!!

foreleft,
Dont discount a driver, even if you're wayward with it it will still get you out there furhter than any other club. I would suggest a bit of course management - if you've a big fairway and a long hole have a bash, however if the tee shot is tight or there is no big advantage to being long then play a 3 wood/hybrid/iron. I've started playing our dog leg short par 4 8th much better since I starting hitting 2 rescue and a full 9 iron, rather than drive into light rough and chunk a sand iron or lob wedge short. When paople talk about playing to good lay up positions they are really thinking about what they're doing -well worth trying.
