Does anyone have the Matte Black version of these? Wanted to know how the colour holds up?

Bought the SM4's in the Oil Can finish and after a couple of weeks they looked like cr@p. Does the black stay black or does it wear off?

Thanks

Same with most wedges id guess, in as much as the finish will wear off.

As above, I don't think any of these kind of finishes last long.
If you don't mind the look then its not a problem as the club will still perform.
I had a Cleveland CG15 in their oil can finish - within 3 rounds it looked about 3 years old!
That's why I now prefer the satin chrome style finish.

Oil can finish is supposed to wear off. you can oil them to make it last a tad longer but they are designed to rust. favoured on tour where it tends to be sunny so there is less glare.

Well.... oil can finishes are not the same as the black finishes so comparison between the two is meaningless.

I have MD3's in 50 and 54 degree lofts and an SM5 in 58....all in the two relative companies "black" finish. Had the 58 a couple of weeks longer than the others (six weeks or so) but have probably played 7-9 rounds and half a dozen sessions on the range (all 3 clubs) and although there is a small amount of wear I'm actually quite surprised at how well the finish appears to be holding up.

OK its relatively early days yet and it will be interesting to see what they look like come April when they've had another 3 months of solid golf played.... but... so far... pleasantly surprised.... especially as I also expected to see a big of chatter marks as well.... my "gold" SM5's marked really easily by way of comparison.... but as I opened up by stating that its not easy to compare finishes...I will close by saying the same thing!!!

PS.... the lime green Lamkin UTX part corded grips on the wedges are awful.... soon had them replaced by some Tour Velvets. Lamkin used to be my favourite grip but they do seem to have lost their way of late.

Thanks, it seems that the black does last better.

Any chance of a pic of the mack daddy 3's after some wear on them?
Why are those grips awful? Don't you like the feel or are they not looking good?

They're quite firm and the cord adds a roughness that is not necessary on clubs that are often used for "feel" shots. You very rarely lay into a wedge shot with a force that will put your grip on the club in jeopardy so I don't see the need for the cord.... just my opinion of course.
