I had a go with a 6 iron in Project X 5.5 shaft so stiffer than my usual R300's. What a beaut it was and was as long as my TM TP's with a better flight. Off to see my teaching pro to have a 30 minute go on the trackman and try the X Hot Pro and compare them to current clubs

Going to hit the Rocketbladez Tour, and I20's as well but these X forged are the best club I've hit in 2013. Tempted to go the whole hog and book a fitting at Chessington

When you say better flight, what do you mean? Definitely advise a session with your pro before diving straight in though.

Go for it man! The Project X 5.5 is my shaft of choice, and Callaway have been making great heads for ages. I had a go of a Razr X 6 iron with the same shaft and I was very impressed. Still not as good as my AP2s, but still very nice indeed. What have you got to loose Homer?

Hypocrisy J Simpson?

The lure of new shineys?

That's a lot of lessons!

It's the Indian not the Arrows!

PX5.0 are marginally stiffer than R300 and a different profile - quite boardy. Flighted are marginally softer than non-flighted.

So quite a bit stiffer.

PX tend to suit hitter types (Paul Casey) as opposed to swinger types (Luke Donald).

PX5.5s were too boardy stiff for me. Rifle 6.0 (slightly stiffer than S300) was/is oretty much perfect.

Out of interest shaft gurus how does the 5.5 stack up against the R300 in terms of stiffness

Not much of a shaft guru, but it plays a good deal stiffer than a R300. Even though it is meant to be firm, ie between reg and stiff it is stiffer than one of the True Temper stiff shafts. I can't remember which True Temper shaft unfortunately mate! Why not but an ex demo 6 iron with a 5.5 shaft first?

To be honest if you cant hit callaways, its time to try bowls. I had a set years ago and would wholeheartedly (and have) recommended them to beginners many a time.

My suggestion instead of changing clubs,is get some lessons.
Lessons,lessons,lessons.

Callaway don't seem to have shed that 'beginner's club' image in some places!

Your comment may apply to the X-Hots, but not the X-Forged that Hypo..sorry Homer tried!

It did feel heavier and stiffer but not so unmanageable that I couldn't get it away regularly. If I went to Chessington I know there would be a perfect shaft. It was the feel of the head that blew me away. Soft and yet the ball flew off it. Not a firm feel like the Rocketbladez tour but buttery

True, the X Hot Pros are a little clumsier than the x forged (they would be closer to the likes of the AP2 type iron), the definately seem to have a wider sole which reminds me of the X- range of callies.

Had a shot of my matesd 6 iron and I would be seriously looking at the x hot pro if I was in the market for irons, cracking looking set and so easy to hit.

I really love my AP2 forged heads on Project X 5.5 shafts and it sounds like the X-Forged is another good combo with the same shaft. Before you book a full on custom fit why not search Ebay for a single 6 iron and give it a go? A single 5.5 shaft would not cost much if you need to replace the shaft and it pays to try before you buy? It is the Razr X-Forged you are talking about yeah?

my mates just gone from the x24 hots to the x forged, i must say they are lovely clubs to look at. havent had a play yet..

have you thought about trying any of the mizuno offerings?

I play with older X forged clubs and love them. I tried the X forged offering last year at a Callaway open day and loved them even more. Have a go on a trackman, get fitted and love the clubs!
