As i've said in a previous post i'm interested in buying a set of callaway x22 tour irons ! Can anyone tell me if they have went for a Callaway fitting session? What was it like? and how much did it cost?

Cheers,
Barry

Hi Barry610. I have just been fit by a local pro for some Mizuno 200s. I asked him about the Mizuno Fitting Centre in Leatherhead and getting fit there.

His response - and this is a kind of indirect answer - was that unless you can hit 10-15 balls in exactly the same way - shape, direction, etc then it is pretty much a waste of time going to that extent.

Not sure what handicap you are or where you play, but most pro's can custom fit a range of clubs. Mine didn't charge me for the fitting session in the knowledge that I will buy from him.

Maybe worth a look down that route before going directly to Callaway.

Other forumers may disagree with the above, but this is my experience. Hope it is of help

Everyone I know who has been to Callaway at Chessington have raved about it. I disagree with the pro comments that it is a waste of time. the advantage of going to a dedicated provider (Calllaway, the Mizuno fitting centre, Ping in Lincolnshire etc) is that they carry far more variety in terms of shaft and so you are getting a club that is fitted to your exact swing speeds etc.

I appreciate most pros can do a custom fitting in terms of loft, lie angles and grip size and may be able to recommend a shaft to suit if they have the equipment to monitor swing speed but with a fitting at these main suppliers you get a small idea of what it is like to be a tour pro and have your equipment specific to your needs.

Same as Homer, have not had it done but heard only good things from Chessington. I live very near the place so if you go for it PM me and we will arrange a knock around.

Have been to Callaway at Chessington and also Ping - it's all about numbers on the machine (as well as the basic length, loft, lie) and they can tell pretty good what you need from looking at a few shots and getting the launch, spin, etc etc. Callaway wouldn't be so busy would they if it didn't work..........

Been to the Ping fitting and the Titleist fitting and both were excellent. Highly recommend giving it a go, especially if you have an idea with what you want (trajectory, spin etc).
