Callaway Big Bertha Alpha?

I tried one out and thought it was ok, went a long way when I caught one but didn't real get much feeling in the shots, it was also noticably lower in trajectory than the other clubs I was trying out. I ended up with an I25 instead.

I should clarify a bit, thinking of changing driver but didn't really know what I wanted so went in with an open mind. Tried the 913 D3, SLDR, I20, X2Hot and the Big Bertha.

X2Hot and SLDR felt rotten. Really didn't like either, the D3 felt ok but didn't offer anything different to my 910 so ruled that out.

I20 was ok but felt quite dead which wasn't a bad thing but didn't see the point over paying before the G30 appears.

I liked the Big Bertha and hit it well but found it quite spinny so was told that the Alpha was really low spinning

So wanted to get some further opinions on it

I was told its low spinning and it definitely reduced the height on my drives which our pro said was becos of the low spin but I had no numbers to back it up(assuming this is what you are looking for). Just did not have any feeling in the shots for me and I was more erratic than with the Ping, supposedly the I25 is a lot better than the I20 to hit.

I tried one at the Callaway fitting and I didn't get on with it.
The look, the feel and the sound don't work for me at all.
The Big Bertha was a better club for me.
The Alpha is low spin but the CoG can be altered which can change the whole way the club works....
Nice club but not my culpa...

I got one at Kings of Distance from Callaway. It certainly gets the ball out there ( up to about 280 yards for me) but I found the dispersion a bit erratic off poorer hits. Also, compared to my Ping G15 it was harder to hit, the Ping just was such an easy club but it didn't go more than about 250 yards.

A few days ago a pal at my club, who loved the Alpha bought me a X2 Hot driver and rescue club and we did a swap. The x2 is much easier to hit but still goes as far as the Alpha, the rescue club is awesome also and he loves the Alpha, so, we are both happy bunnies.

Remind us how you won that? ;)

Hi LanDag,

We always recommend getting a fitting to see which driver suits you best. The Big Bertha and X2Hot are great (and long!) drivers that are slightly easier to hit than the BB Alpha, but it depends on your launch dynamics, swing speed etc and how forgiving you need the club to be. If you're after something where you can adjust the spin to reduce the ballooning effect for instance, the BB Alpha might be for you. Any chance you can get down to our Performance Centre HQ in Surrey for a fitting?
