Why don't they put proper locks with bonded seals on the back doors of lorries crossing the channel? They do it on ships containers to check they have not been opened.

There only thin aluminium or plastic which can be cut very easily with a knife, unless your meaning that once you've seen the seal broken the lorry is searched thoroughly, personally in that case, they (migrants) will be breaking seals, realising they can't get in, close the doors as they do and then the amount of lorries being held up and searched more would cause huge delays and further issues.

A giant tunnel with heat imagery is the answer, lorries pass through, body heat and imagery is detected and that lorry then goes to the side to be searched and the lorries that are clear go straight into the tunnel, simples :smirk:

Shared costs across all European countries to create and manage.

When the Tunnel was first opened they installed X-ray equipment and oxygen analysers for detecting stowaways. I'm not sure whether the ferry had similar. I never heard that they were used though as the government policy was pretty much open door, as we later found out.

But what if the doors had a substantial lock with a seal.

What concerns me is that the supposed same 'super fence' [in use at Calais] is also in place around way more critical areas on our shores...

Doesn't fill me with much confidence when I see relatively ill equipped folk seemingly passing through with relative ease...

Because I imagine the cost would have to be borne by the hauliers who are already in a very competitive market, and are probably not willing to pay for that for all of their lorries?

if they did and could afford them then there would be no sign of damage or forcedr entry so they wouldn't have to go through an xray tunnel or be inspected, what a daft question!!

I was suggesting that to stop forced entry into the back of Lorries a substantial lock and seal would be a good initial deterrent. It's what has always been used on shipping containers. It would be cheaper than the hefty fine if an illegal was found in the back. At the moment they seem to open the doors easily.

What's 'daft' about that?
