Wondered if anyone could help. There's 16 of us travelling up to Slaley Hall next month for our annual golf trip and want (need) to stop for breakfast on the way up, can anyone recommend anywhere that is on the A1 or very close by? We will be meeting on the A658 and travelling up the A1 and then onto the A68. Would rather not get ripped off with service station prices unless its a decent breakfast :whoo:

The Derwent Manor Hotel at Allensford is nice, on the A68 and 9 miles South of Slaley. It's got a pub type bar attached & the prices aren't too bad

DON'T be tempted to buy food at Slaley Hall unless you've got big wallets.

We've got the meal chucked in with the price for the Sunday driver so that's covered plus 20% discount on drinks too.

Thanks for that, I'll check that out. Forgot to say we'll be travelling up at about 8/8.30 aiming to get to Slaley for 10.30/11ish.

Defenitely give the breakfast at slaley a big miss
Bacon sarnie £5.50......!!!

I think Khamelion is still hurting from last years visit, and his bill at the bar for 2 sarnies and 2 shandys :D

They'll be serving breakfast to the guests then, you should be OK. I did a wedding fair there earlier in the year & the complimentary bacon sandwiches were great. Contact them, they're out in the wilds, don't get much passing trade. They'd probably do you a deal.

I went to slaley for my stag. From the south there is only 1 road and about 20 miles away you will drive past a big cafe. You cant miss it. Its set back a little on the brow of a hill

Hope your playing "the hunting" what a track!

Playing both, playing the Hunting on the Sunday and The Priestman on the Monday. Really looking forward to it, heard good things about it.

Cheers for the info guys.

Played both courses several times and never in the dry.Always rains take your waterproofs.nice place in the middle of nowhere.

Do yourself a favour and avoid the bar. A magners was £6:05. There is an old fashioned pub just over a mile away with good food and drink at a fraction of the cost.

We're staying over so we will have to drink there. We stayed at Carden last year and I think the prices will be similar. The 20% off will soften the blow. Its the same night as the World Cup final so we'll just have to take the hit. We got a cracking deal on it, £105 for BB&evening meal plus a round on each course.

There used to be a greasy trucker cafe on the A1 called Quernhow Cafe. It's not there anymore due widening of the A1 but I swear I've seen another sign for it so I assume it has been moved to another site.

On the breakfast front, if you want a good old McDs there is a drive thru if you go one extra junction up the A1 - only an extra mile from where you'll turn off.

As much as I enjoy the Hunting up there, the Priestman is something of a forgotten hidden gem. Some absolutely blinding holes on that track. The highlight for me being the par 5 4th down the hill.

The front 9 on the Hunting is blooming hard as is the 18th, but I think it looks like they ran out of ideas and space a little bit on the back 9.

A few pence short of £27 for two lager shandies and two bacon and egg butties.

Yes heard the Hunting is a tough track. We play the Priestman on the Monday when we will be nursing a hangover of various proportions, heard really good things about both courses. The prices etc don't worry me too much as you expect it in hotels and like I say we paid it last year at Carden. Seems some longish par 3's on the Hunter. Some of pictures of the course do look stunning though.

At those prices they need to be boycoted. All the staff will be on minimum wage. Its a disgrace. Most of the cafes on a1 have now gone. It is not too difficult to pull off at one of the small towns on route and use local facilities.
