So if they must hang on to this 'tradition' why don't they at least provide uniforms that fit the folk wearing them?

Leaving aside the history of the garment and why it was introduced, it is the single scruffiest thing about the tournament

Its not just that the caddies are clearly melting wearing them, almost all had overalls that were far too long and too big for them. I think the worst was Stephen Gallaghers caddie who was shirtless underneath with his FC's caddie wearing a set that was at least half a foot too long

Just what are augusta hoping to achieve with this approach?

p.s well done Bubba

Some of them were definitely built for the larger frame. I like the tradition of the white suit but in the heat and humidity it does seem rather harsh on the caddies. Can't see them doing away with it anytime soon though

Why is everything 'old' called traditional and perpetuated beyond common sense.

Why can't we have white shirts/blouse and shorts far more practical and stylish.

Really - 5+ hours in those overalls must be horrendous

Agree, they already have 'masters green' baseball hats so if they gave them green shorts, white polo and green caddie tabards then it would retain their identity, fit better, be cooler/smarter and still fit in with the unique aspect of how caddies are dressed differently at the masters to the other comps

^^^^ Until reading this thread I hadn't given the racist angle a thought (but being white I guess that's the issue) - unfortunately when one thinks about it its quite likely that the historical context could/would probably show uncomfortable origins in the overalls' 'tradition'.

In modern society the 'Masters' organisers and sponsors might want to consider it would be prudent to change.

I like them. Keeps the caddies more understated than the players.

We are there to see the players, the caddies are just hired help not superstars.

I think carrying a tour bag full of clubs and never hitting a shot does that pretty well

Covering up in loose white clothing is the most effective way of keeping cool as white reflects heat away, as they do in Arabia. If the overalls fabric was light in weight it shouldn't be a problem.

My caddie yesterday on The Blue Monster (and believe you me it's not often I get to say that) had white overalls on, so maybe it's an US thing where caddies wear them at top end US courses?
