Hi guys! Hope everyone's glad it's Friday!

You may have read my cack-handed post earlier, been playing this way since day 1, but finally took the plunge and had a lesson...

Booked in today with the Senior Pro at Glasgows World Of Golf(my course doesn't have a pro - any thoughts guys?)

Took the hour, with some video analysis, and i have to admit i loved it!

First 15-20 balls were Alien to me, felt like crying! But the guy was great, and by the end of my hour i was hitting my driver straighter than ever imagined, with a lot of work in progress mind you. He said learn the grip, followed by some swing and posture work and i should be better than i ever was cack-handed.

He's recommended 6 x 1/2 hour lessons, and said he can't see why that wouldn't iron out most things. What do you guys think? I know it's hard having not seen me!

Playing on Sunday and going to start from the beginning and try it out, no point not!

Last point - video analysis? Didn't realise how much i need to visit the gym!

Thanks again for the advice guys, very much appreciated. And if you're behind me at Milngavie on Sunday - please understand!

Good news. The tough thing is trusting it even when it goes wrong on the course (and it will). I'm surprised the pro got you working with a driver as most prefer something like a 7 iron as it is easier to use.

Not sure what to say about your club not having a pro. It is something that would put me off joining a club but I understand it is becoming more normal. Before joining here I had never heard of a club not having a pro.

Six lessons should be ideal as it will give the pro time to work on all the basics and may on the short game too which will save you loads of shots. The thing to do is to keep practicing what you have been taught, ideally at the range and not on the course. Make it feel natural so that when he has finished you will be ready to tear it up and can rely on it under pressure

Well done, mikeyp. It's hard to make a big change adn but sounds like you're well on the way. Soon you'll wonder how you ever did it the other way!

Totally guys,

Just having the faith to keep going.

I'm heading back to hit 100 tomorrow, then a lesson during the week to keep the work up.

I've a 4 ball Sunday(which i'm dreading) and to be honest, after that i think i'll head up myself a few times at quiet periods and keep at it.

He did give me the 7 iron too, and i was susprised about the driver too! Bit it felt more comfortable than ever!

it is strange my course doesn't have a pro-shop, think it's a big miss. And i'd also like to put my money into my own club?

If you feel ok with the new grip, in that you believe its gonna work for you thats great. Dont be surprised if it all goes to cock sometime soon, you must stick with it. I dont know the pro you went to so I cant comment on him, time will tell if hes any good.
Good luck with your new game.

I think it's obvious already that you've made the right choice, mikey.

Stick with the lessons. 6 x half hours lessons are usually more fruitful than 3 x 1 hour lessons. Good luck.

This is great news and I know exactly how you feel being in your position not long ago.

The 6 times half hour lessons are great. Just make sure you put the effort in, in between. Bear in mind though that alot of the time its more beneficial to hit 50 quality balls than 100 that you may get tired with. Well thats how I feel. as someone has previously mentioned, 100 balls is the equivilent to a full round and you may end up grinding in swing flaws if you over do it.

The no pro thing i think is becoming more common place. My club doesn't have one either. The 'pro shop' if you can call it that is run by the secretary and the owner. There is a pro that visits but only if people book lessons with him. I think the head green keeper takes care of most of what the pro would do, that he can. I thought it was a little wierd at first but with my club being so new and the amount of quality clubs in Chester, the numbers seem to be a little low in comparison and I dont think the pro would make any money full time. Shame really cause the club has so much potential.
