Right following on from my recent swing dissection, I went to the range tonight. I wanted to keep it simple so the only things I tried to work on were:

1) Better posture
2) Weight staying forward during the downswing and not moving to the heels

I think there is less overall movement in my swing now but the tempos probably is still to quick but I wanted to just swing at my natural (for now) pace and not get my mind too full of swing thoughts. The first two are with 6 irons and the last with my 3 hybrid. Good contact with each and a little draw on all. Throughout the session it didn't feel like I was hitting them flush but still pretty decent and hard to tell hitting into the snow.

Over to you guys to see if I'm on the right track

I appluad you, you seem to strike well enough, but it still baffles me how you can have so much head movement and catch the ball as you do. You almost go from a puting stance to un upright stance.

You didnt tell me what your Club Head Speed was :D

Dont look like your playing Golf on the weekend with that snow coming down.

Oh yes, your swing does look better mate, going to be a good game next time we play.

I don't know my CHS. I think its around 102mph. I put my swing tonight through the V1 software and circled my head at address and at impact. It actually stays at the same height tonight as opposed to coming way up at impact from last Sundays shots so definite progress.

I think putting stance at address is a tad harsh as my psoture tonight looks much better with my chin etc much higher. Oh well onwards and upwards.

102 is pretty fast, do you hit the ball really high? as if I remember correctly, you claim you dont hit the ball very far.

Either my computer runs at warp speed, or that is a heck of a fast swing speed, mainly going back, but also the transition. TBH, way too fast for me to comment on what goes on.
Try slowing it down to a blur.

I'm guessing CHS to be honest. I know I was up around that mark in AG in SLiugh recently trying out the new Yonex driver. I use to hit the ball very high on a rainbow trajectory but I'm now getting a much better penertrating flight and better distance.

To me, due to the speed you take the cub back at, you move your head up a bit. If you initiated your swing slower, with a smooth slow take back, your head would be more stable, and your impact more consistent. You could gather at the top, and then lash at it.

I think your lack of power (ish) comes from not giving yourself any time in your swing.

Just a thought.

Interesting thought. I am really trying to slow it down (no really! it was much quicker). I think the problem I have is I get focussed on trying to swing well with the camera there that I foget to focus on the speed along with better posture at address, swinging too flat, coming up at impact, hitting it like a poof etc etc.

Homer that is a definite improvement especially posture, chin and tempo. well done mate!

For the tempo try Alchemy's tip of saying a name, I use it sometimes especially on the back swing. I simply use my name "jeffery" with the downswing initiated on the "y" at the end.

Try different names with different number of syllables eg jeff, jeffrey, jeffery, etc although I think "Davis love the third" might be a bit long and jerky

If you want to slow your swing down by using words, try...
'Welcome to the Carribean, hope you have a nice holiday'
Seriously though........
Posture is now excellent.
Can I ask what you want to improve?
consistency of strike?
Direction?
Distance?

I really want to work on the temp next. The ball striking is pretty consistant ad accuracy is acceptable. My distance isn't that good (7 iron 135-140 yards) and so I know I need to work on a wider takeaway to get more distance but its pretty apparent that the swing speed is the area needing the most work

I know it's really hard to try and slow down your backswing when you have a naturally quick tempo to your life.
As I said earlier, just try and make the backswing smoother(not snatched away) and the downswing noticeably quicker.
A way to practice this is to start with a 9 iron, make a half backswing and a full follow through.
I think you'll be surprised how far it goes
Keep up the good work, you'll be giving me shots soon :)

Looks nice Homer but not sure about the 'trying to stand up' movement as you come in to hit the ball. I would say you still look a little cramped at address which makes you think you don't have enough room coming down, so you 'create' some more - love to see a side on shot....

What are you bad shots? High and right and not very far or a smoothery pull (or both....)?

Posture is much better at address Homer. Still to much movement at the top of your back swing on transition, and you seem to be leaning back a little on your downswing. Backswing is still very fast, remember, you don't hit the ball on your backswing. Other than that........

You have my permision to rip my swing to bits at the Ascot meet. My backswings so slow peeps fall asleep :D :D :D

I don't think there's any way to change our natural tempo, is there? We either do it or we don't. I know you swing with a quick tempo but there's nothing wrong with that if the rest is correct.

I think the new swing changes are an improvement, Homer. I just think you've got it in your mind that you're not gonna have enough room to get back to the ball properly so your body is naturally lifting (see the spine angle change you have when the clubhead changes direction at the top) when it shouldn't. Give it time.

Homer, don't get trapped by the club head speed trap, when your tempo and timing improve the distance comes with it.

Here comes the dilema, do you stop now and try to groove it with what you got and make your course managment and game plan work with it or look to alter/improve more??

This is something I often wonder about, personnally I am always tinkering to TRY and get better but I have made a conscious effort not to do it whilst playing on the course.(Dr Bob's influence)

Everything looks better so go to the course with it for now.

I stand by what i said the 1st time.

Try and smooth the swing out a bit tempo wise, slow it down a tad and take all comments on board but mainly listen to Bobmac,he is qualified and does this for a living after all.

Posture is mucho better!!

I didn't comment on your swing last time but I think these efforts are much better- the difference seems to be huge to me so take heart from the fact your hard work seems to be paying off, slowly but surely. Keep at it and you will have a great swing, and like people say it doesn't matter what it looks like as long as it works. Still too much head movement for me however in one of the videos you can clearly see you getting the club on a good line so happy days- swinging at that speed I wouldn't get near the ball at impact let alone on plane during the downswing!

I really can't understand your lack of distance though you seem to swing faster than I do but I hit my 7 iron 150 + with a smooth swing. Keep the practice going though and good luck eradicating the problems.
