Folks,

Just looking to canvas a few people's opinions.

I'm currently playing off 13 h/c, (down from 17 ten months ago), and am quite ambitious that I'll continue to reduce.

I bought the irons I currently use (Wilson Deep Red Wt100) 3 years ago and am now at the stage where I have decided to treat myself to a new set of irons. (Mostly due to my brother in laws company picking up 25% of the pro-shop bill at an outing at the start of August :D ).

I've been doing a bit of research and have narrowed my selections down to:

TM Rocketbladez (normal)
TM Rocketbladez (tour)
Titleist AP1
Mizuno JPX 825

From having a quick swing in AG with them I really am undecided, however feel like I would sway towards the tour Rocketbladez rather than normal for how they feel and look to me at address.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these irons, or can give me a friendly pointer?

Cheers,
J.

if you're unsure, don't rush into buying a set that you "think" you like. do extensive testing so that you can be truly happy in the choice you will make.

in terms of the irons, 3 out of the 4 you have mentioned are classified as GI irons. rocketbladez tour are more of a players cavity, very similar to the titleist ap2's in retrospect.

you say you are swaying towards the rocketbladez tour due to the feel and look at address. if i were you, i'd also try out the 825 pro's and the ap2's. similar to the tm tours.

good luck !

I'd go older, save a few quid and get a good set of irons like the TM CB's. Good better player irons ( no idea why I have them on that basis) and as good if not better than the Rocket blades. You can pick them up new or second hand for a fraction of the price of the newer model.

I am a big 825 pro fan.... The rb tour were not out, but they beat the ap2, i20 and some others hands down.... Better shaft options. It's all about the numbers and what you hit best though....

Is there an option to try them on the range or anything like that? What looks good might not be the ones that work best for your swing. Have heard mixed reports on the Rocketblades....

Where are you based? Personally I wouldn't use AG as I've had a number of very bad experiences but that's just my own view. I would look at my club pro as a starting point or an independent fitter. I had a great experience at a place called Pachesham Golf Club yesterday. No pressure, no brand promoted over another, time out when I needed it and some swing help to boot

I'd definitely recommend getting custom fit. I bought new clubs after a custom fit last thursday and am now awaiting their arrival. I had my heart set on ap1's or ap2's but in the end it came down to either the 825 pro's or i20's. i couldnt get away from the consistency of the i20's!

Jamie. I was custom fitted recently and I can't believe what a difference a different shaft makes. Much more than the head in my opinion. I would want to be hitting them outdoors onto a range, taking my time and preferably with a Trackman behind me with objective data to back up the 'feel' stuff you get from hitting them.

That's just my 2p worth.

James.

I tried out the RocketBladez and really liked the way they looked at address (i used to play with Mizuno TP-9 blades which are the old style blades Faldo used to use).

I ended up buying the TaylorMade R11 irons from American Golf.
The process was excellent - tested all the clubs I wanted to in their simulator so I got instant feedback from the shot and secondary feedback from their equipment.
I was then able to take the clubs out on to the range where I could actually see the ball in flight and make my decision based on using the clubs in a more realistic setting (a simulator telling you that the ball went a certain distance is not the same for me as actually seeing it!).

Great set up by American Golf and one happy customer.
The price tag is higher than elsewhere but you can guarantee they are genuine and they give an extended warantee if you have an Am golf card.

Good luck choosing your new clubs and achieving your new handicap goal.
