I'm about to add a hybrid to my limited collection of clubs - and I'm surprisingly excited & wary at the same time!
At the moment I'm looking at a Yonex nanospeed 19 degree regular shaft. This is mainly because I like my 3 wood.

Tried one a few times in the artificial & uncomfortable american golf trying out area (ok I'm sure its better than nothing). But I don't think I'll really have a feel for it till I've used it for a few months anyway, so just wondered if anyone had any opinions on this particular club or any alternatives?

Thanks for any advice!

What club is it replacing?

19 degrees is a weak 5 wood, or a two iron. It won't be as long as a 5w as the shaft is shorter, but will be easier to hit. If you are looking to replace a 3i, this will be longer.

A 21 hybrid would be more versatile, and easier to hit, but not as long as a 2.

depends what you want to do with it, more detail required.

thanks Murph, its not replacing anything - I only have 10 clubs at the moment!

Its purpose is mainly long second shots, usually par 5, but also when I'v still got a long way to go on par 4's.
At the moment I use 4i if confident/playing well or 5i if beinga bit more cautious.

Would also be an option off tee for longer par 3's.
There's one in particular (at Beauchief, the 9th, 223yds uphill off the yellows) that from numerous efforts I think I've only managed to hit the green once!

I have 2 hybrids in my bag; a Cobra Rail 3h (19/40.5") and a 4h (22/40"). As conceived, they are in there in place of a 3i and 4i and they sit between my Cobra S2 5i (25/38.25") and 5w (18/43")

They're the easiest clubs to hit that I own and have replaced my 10i as the club I turn to when I need to find my groove at the range.

i'v ejust picked up a mizuno mp clk 23 degrees and it's lovely, first hybrid i've ever had and a joy to hit.

a 4 iron replacement, thinking about getting a 2 iron replacement as well now as dont use 5 wood

To me, if your go to club is a 5i, then a 21 degree hybrid will be easier to hit than a 19, and will give a lot more length than the 5i. If you middle your 4i, the 21 hybrid would still be longer. I had a lower lofted hybrid once, and found it considerably harder to hit than a higher lofted one. In the end I benched it as it was inconsistent.

What loft is your 4i?

I'd recommend trying as many as possible.

So far, I've struggled to find a hybrid I can hit properly & consistently.

I've tried the Callway X-type (?), the Ping G10, G15, i15 and a TaylorMade (can't remember the model - it was a mate's).

The best one I've hit is an Adams Pro Goldm, but that was at Direct Golf range, where they insisted on taping the face (no others were) and then saying, "look how well you're hitting it". Well of course I am ... there's no sidespin on the bl**dy ball is there! Wanted to try it without tape, but wasn't allowed.

I still want to try a Cleveland, Cobra and Mizuno before I declare myself "oot" of the hybrid market.

Interesting, I actually find my 19 hybrid easier to hit than my 22. No idea why, probably all in my mind, but I can really lean into my 19; the thing goes miles and makes a great noise (or maybe that's me making the noise).

Does everyone know what loft all their clubs are?!
based a bit of googling i'd say my 4i is 24 deg, so i guess this means i could go 22 degree hybrid and still be significantly adding to my options.
I was going 19 deg as i'd got the idea from somewhere that that was a 3i replacement so the natural addition to my bag.
I knew i'd end up just getting more things to think about!!

any decent pro will be able to measure the loft of your irons, may be worth getting your 4 iron measured to give you a better idea of what loft to get so that the gap isnt too big or too small

Don't forget that amongst other things length is also key to a club's performance characteristics and how it might suit the profile of your set. I note that my 22 deg Cobra 4 hybrid is over an inch longer than the S2 4i (also 22 deg) that I believe it is designed to replace.

My hybrid is 19deg and I was told it's a 2 iron replacement.

My only comment is that I wouldn't bank on it being a good club yardage wise for an uphill 223yd par 3. That would be a good hit for me if it were flat.

Does your 3 wood go too far on that hole?

You and me both, I have the same issue with fairway woods as well, it's been years since I could hit a 3-wood. I'd much rather smack a long iron.

Too far left or right usually!
My good 3 wood shots would be about right for it. They don't happen on this hole though.
A few hours shopping tomorrow, 22 deg yonex still favourite but will see if any options grab me.
