No surprise. He is one awful football manager who somehow seems to escape the wrath of the MSM up here due to him being a 'nice chap'.

Hibs are a shambles of a club and unless Petrie follows Butcher their path will continue in the wrong direction IMO.

Who's next for the poisoned chalice?

Ian Murray?

Gary Locke is looking for a job....

Anyone who can get ICT up to second in the league deserves a bit of respect, he should have stayed there.

He was doomed at Hibs, wrong club, wrong manager.
How many managers have they had since Mowbray now?
Must be about six.
Ian Murray probably a done deal..

Stuart McCall

He might be looking for a new challenge and feel he's taken Motherwell as far as they can go but I'd be surprised if he went to Hibs. Maybe the Dempster connection can sway him.

He's got to look at what happened to Butcher after he left a successful and secure job to go to Easter Road, ignoring the manager's graveyard there.

Sacking Butcher yesterday was just yet another astounding piece of mismanagement from the Hibs board. This is the guy who decided that 14 or so players should leave the club and they've now gone. He should either have been fired right away such that the new manager had the chance to make those decisions or supported and given the opportunity to bring them up next year.

Ultimately, I think it boils down to the knowledge that they will struggle for promotion next year and that the fans would never tolerate Butcher for a third season if that happened. The new guy can come in and, barring a disastrous first season, be given two years to get them back up....

i agree with FD - i'm not sure what sacking BUtcher actually achieves. HIbs were a basket case when Butcher took the job and while i would have expected him to keep them up, it was clear he would need time

i have no love for butcher, but i'm pretty sure he would have the savvy to get Hibs up next season seeing as he had a pretty decent record with teams like Motherwell and ICT.

Butcher and Malpas have no one to blame but themselves. We were mid table obscurity when Fenlon left and no way were we getting relegated. They come in, tell the entire squad they're crap and none of them will be playing for him next season.A couple of injuries and suspensions and he's having to ask the very same players to dig him out a hole.I pretty much saw every ball Hibs kicked/hoofed under Butcher and I promise you, he's the worst manager I've seen at Hibs.Utterly dreadful.Malpas getting in arguments verging on fights with the crowd during games didn't help either.

I was at a meeting on Saturday with Leanne Dempster at ER and I was deeply impressed.I've had dealings with the Hibs board over the years and never had the inclination things might be changing...I did on Saturday.

And Butcher never decided on any players...those out of contract weren't offered new deals, but everyone could see they weren't worth new ones.

If Hibs get their act together sharpish I'm reasonably confident we'll be top two next year...Rangers might spend big, they also might have a 25 point deduction to worry about.Hearts might be galvanised by their end of season performances, they might realise the players responsible for that wee run are no longer there and they are ran by Levein..now I'm no lover of the jambos, but for that one appointment they have my sympathy. And George Foulkes claiming this week they're debt free might want to run that past the Budgie and £500K footballing debt still needing squared.

It's all piss and wind just now, but I'd rather have the clean slate we have at ER over the situations at Ibrox and Tynie

i am glad you are optimistic, but if there is one thing that is consistent with Hibs is that they will, no matter what, find a way to lose to Hearts, regardless of the circumstance.

i'm much fonder of hibs than of the jambos and the zombos, but they will have to find something in their locker to make sure they come back up again.

Not for a minute am I suggesting Butcher shouldn't have been fired. Just that he shouldn't have been allowed to decide the fate of the majority of the playing squad before he got canned!

I guess you can blame that indecisiveness on Petrie and Dempster has at least acted promptly once she got in there. She does seem to be a good appointment and I'm sure she'll turn Hibs round.

Sadly (as a Rangers fan) the gers are still a complete shambles off the park and not much better on it. It's a mystery to me what sort of team they'll put out come the start of the season (or, as you say, whether they'll have a points deduction or not).

He didn't decide the fate of any player. They were either out of contract and not offered a new one by Hibs, or youth players and the youth coaches decided to let them go.Butcher may have told them the news, but he didn't make the decision.

So who decided not to offer new contracts? Petrie?

Not all of those players were bad and, indeed, some have been snapped up by other clubs. I'm just suggesting when the new manager comes in he might think he would have kept some of those guys on. So fire Butcher right away, get someone else in and let him make the decisions. OK, maybe with contracts ending quick decisions were called for...

What it boils down to is that I don't understand why they didn't just can Butcher right away. At a guess, I'd say they were waiting for Dempster to come in and make the decision?

He must have been mad to leave ICT in the first place, but it's no surprise he's become the latest victim of the Hibs hot seat. I think they'll go after McCall personally, but again, I think he'd be making a poor choice in leaving 'Well.

Dempster/Petrie made those decisions the Monday after we were relegated. She was still technically working for Motherwell, but was at East Mains that day.I understand they also told Butcher that day he was effectively on gardening leave, hence the absolute silence from all parties until yesterday.
