Also known as students elbow, anyone else ever had this and how long did it take to clear up, and does it repeat?

Havent slept all night, got up this am and my elbow is almost the size and colour of a cricket ball, overly sensitive to the touch and can only bend the elbow about 20 degrees.

Doc says I have bursitis caused by either leaning on it at the desk too much or possibly hitting too many golf balls (guilty on both counts lol)

Been given anti imflammatories but told it needs to be rested, not ideal with all the golf i am supposed to be playing in the next few weeks :( So anyone got any good news stories that it will be gone in a few days?

FT if youre reading this and havent already done so plse see PM

James - yep I broke first lol, seems you really are in pole position of the cripples handicap bet :D

i had it in my shoulder, though sounds like a milder case than yours.

the medical advice I was given at the time was 8 ibuprofens a day for a couple of weeks, and not hitting any balls for that couple of weeks.

cleared it up never to return thankfully. like hitting into the clag, better just to take your medicine than hope for a miracle.

I had it a few years ago and can only sympathize as it hurts like hell. I went to the Dr and she said it can be cause by impact or infection. Mine was apparently infected and I was given penicillin which cleared it up in a couple of days.

I had my 2nd steroid injection in my shoulder the other day.... 1 more to go. It's feeling a lot better.

I keep getting this urge to play a medal, closely followed by the thought "Why?" :D

I had bursitis of the knee and it went away quite quickly after taking the anti-flams, but the joint doesn't feel quite right even now, a year later, as if it's not quite 'lubricated' properly (ooooerr!)

I've calculated that I've had 3.99yrs with a major injury out of the last 4yrs... no wonder I'm crap :p

nb: I thought bursitis came from blocking one of the 'lubricant tubes' by accidentally pressurising it and causing it to inflame/block itself. Once it opens up the swelling will go.

Lets hope you are right - id not even heard of it until 9am this morning! Seems its either caused by the elbow on desk constantly but can also be caused from golf. Sort of hoping I wake up tomorrow and it is 90% better but guess thats wishful thinking

As per usual, injury comes just as I was starting to find some form :(

Spend a lot of time on my knees buddy?.... :o

Due to wildness from the tee I'm often referred to as "The Sussex Seve"

I too had prepatellar bursititus (aka housemaids knee) and i was the butt of jokes round work for a long while haha

The pain was awful and i agree, even 1 year on my knee seems less 'lubricated'

I think rest was the best advice i can give.

It took me 14 days for the inflamation/swelling to clear completely

Had it bad in my elbow about 4 years ago, my full arm was up like a ballon and was boiling hot, had strong antibiotics and it went down in a week but still had the slight pain for months

Still suffering, the pain has now gone but still quite swollen and only got partial use of the arm. Getting really frustrated, especially as it doesnt seem to have rained at all since it happened!

Went back to the docs earlier and if it hasnt made anymore improvement in a weeks time then they are going to inject a steroid into the joint. Ouch!

I get a pain in the right elbow if I hit off range mats too often. Usually goes with some ice and anti inflammatories and definitely not as bad as the OP. Hope it gets better quickly and you can get back to golf
