They might as well get rid of them.
They seem to be the place to be in the USPGA.
When you hear a call from the tee "get in the bunker" something's wrong.
For the Pros. bunkers are the easy way out.
They're not a hazard so they might as well fill them all in and make them rough....

It's rarely a shot penalty these days as these guys are so good. Also, they get raked so well that the ball almost always rolls into the middle of the bunker !!

What can be done ?? Maybe make them a lot deeper ??

More control out the bunkers and more chance of a repeatable shot.......but only because they practice practice practice bunker shots until its second nature, when was the last time us AM's spent more than a couple of minutes 'getting out'!

Links bunkers are a different kettle of fish though:rolleyes:

I think Jack Nicklaus has the right idea, he advocates removing the rakes.

Put snakes in them i say. How many will shout get in the bunker then? :D

I'd much rather be in a bunker then the long grass beside a green as long as the bunker is well raked. Its not just the pro's.

All the pro's have great technique, it doesn't mean that bunker shots are easy. Just look at kucher, two crap bunker shots and the second one being drilled into the lip.

They are the same hazards that you and I face week in week out.Remember these courses are played by members the other 51 weeks of the year it's just that joe average is gash out of bunkers and the Pro's are not.

Or maybe the rough is too rough? Either way the rough and bunkers are not the place to be. The player shouts "in the bunker" because he has a preference for his next shot.

This is really the issue. The rough around the greenside bunkers is a much more severe punishment than going in the bunker. This seems to be a particular feature on American type courses.

I think they should cut it back so that you don't have deep rough around the bunkers or between the bunker and the green, so that a shot that only just misses the green isn't punished more severely than one which goes in the bunker.
