I've just played 18 holes and first hole not bad with a bogey , second , par and I'm now thinking this could be a good round ( for me ) then on the third my second shot went in a greenside bunker.

Normally not a problem , so got in the bunker nestled my feet in and took a swing ......and the ball moves a foot and still in the bunker, ok so maybe I did something wrong , who knows? Tried again, and again same thing.

After I eventually got out in a score I won't mention because I am ashamed of it, I examined the sand much closer and it turns out I was standing in quite a few inches of sand but my ball was sitting on about 3/4 of a inch of sand hence why I couldn't get the bloody ball out.

This sort of thing really annoys me as I accept it is a hazard , but for goodness sake give us a fighting chance of getting out.

Consistency of depth is all I ask. we have some bunkers with barely a covering and some that are quite deep. Not always that apparent even if you wriggle the feet in. No way of knowing how much is lying under the ball

Ours have loads of sand but it's so compacted it's like hitting off concrete, always thin the ball a mile out or knacker your wrists

They desperately need rotovating or something
