I had a bunker lesson today for the first time and quite honestly I think it was a revelation and if I work at it has potential to save me a few shots a round!

Turns out I was trying to get the ball out with my usual chipping technique, I kind of new this already which is why I wanted to learn it properly.

First lesson with the pro at my new club too and very impressed, he's informative without it all going over my head and so calm that it kind of rubbed off on me and I was just splashing them out of the sand for fun!

looking forward to going in a bunker at the weekend now, until I dick it n leave it in the sand of course!!!

I know exactly how you feel. I used to think I was playing them properly, but now I figured it out I know I wasn't really.

Good innit! :)

Played with a pro today who was is 4 greenside bunkers, he took a total of 7 shots, 3 up and downs and holed one - was a joy to watch the control that is possible

I had one on Saturday. It was nice to have him treat me like an adult and ask me why I was messing up rather than tell me. It certainly improved my game on Sunday.

Today it was a case of changing the ball and hand positions mainly but also understanding how the sand can work for me. Will take some practice to be confident about swinging so hard for a short shot but I'm feeling positive!
Also thinking of having a putting lesson, I've allways felt as tho my technique varies too much as I'm trying to find the correct stroke without any guidance.
My new years golf resolution is to spend money/time on lessons instead of looking for a quick fix from new equipment!!

Good on you.

Hitting it stone dead out of a bunker is one of my favourite shots in golf when it happens.

I'm amazed at how many high and even mid h/cappers I see who just don't have a clue how to play out of sand when a £30 lesson and a bit of practice will save them heaps more shots than the latest £300 adjustable driver.
