Just wondering what people think is a good alternative to the callaway warbird. I play off 18, Im a good iron striker, average/poor driver who struggles with a slice, and an average around the greens man.

I currently pay 18-20 euros for a dozen warbirds, and i have been quite happy with them. What is out there in the £15/€20 class that i could play instead? People on here seem very critical of them and whilst iv never had an issue im wondering that maybe a slightly softer ball might be the better choice for the cold winters mornings where distance is difficult.

People always suggest refurbed/lake pro vs for that price but id prefer a consistently average ball than an unpredictable top class ball, which may be top class, or may be a rock/fake.

Thoughts?

By the way Im new to the forum, havent really introduced myself,Im an Irishman, living in dublin, play off 18 in slievenamon(for handicap purposes only) and generally try to keep active on the open circuit, playing as many top class courses as possible.

Currently play with Wilson Ultra Comp set of clubs, basic starter set with decent irons, with an MD supersoft players 60deg wedge, and a spalding old school two sided blade, shortened to 32 inches for the extra feel. New Wilson smooth driver from this months edition looks beautiful and is on santa list!!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with, Warbird balls, though you can expect to find them for a tenner, if you shop arround.

for a few quid more than the Warbird you can get Callaway Big Bertha balls, which are a little softer & probably similar to the AD333 ball, though I prefer Trispeed if I'm using Srixon, though tbh are a bit overpriced truth be told.

Also in the Callaway range is the Hot range of balls, good multilayer distance ball, basically their budget HX ball.

Titleist do the PTS range of balls, not tried the new PTS balls, but the old so~lo ball was adequate.

Lots of people rate WilsonStaff DX2 balls, I've never rated them, but they are suposed to be improved on how they used to be. Others will also recommend Maxfli Noodle, personally I prefer Maxfli Fire though less available than the noodle.

I'd say, if you like the Warbird, stick with them, don't let anyone tell you not to use them. A mate of mine from work plays with Mitsushiba balls, which I think are like pebbles but they suit him & go a respectice distance & he's happy, he sees no reason to change & why should he.

I have been using the AD333 for about a year now and can not knock them, I like the NTX Tour (if you get a load grade A/Pearl from EBay even better and cheaper) & the DX2, though I prefer the Srixon over the Wilson ;)

As mentioned before, its horses for courses at the end of the day, I bought 40 Pearl/A Grade AD333 for £20 for this time of year as the leaves eat them up like no tomorrow for the next few months.

On thing I would say is that what ever ball you decide on, if it works for you stick with it as changing balls all the time is just as bad as playing with the wrong type for your game.
