Bubba to repaint the General Lee

On the one hand he's doing a great thing and acting as a positive role model for people in general and golfers. On the flip side the car is an innocent relic of a TV show. Overall he's definitely done the right thing.

Good on him

Really? Is he doing such a great thing? Replacing the Confederate battle flag, the flag of the Army of the South in the American Civil War which some people claim represents racism, with the Stars & Stripes, the flag which represents oppression to a number of people, the flag of a nation that didn't allow "coloreds" (their term) to drink from the same water fountains or use the same waiting rooms as white people and the flag proudly displayed at the front of pretty much any Ku Klux Klan march you see photographs of?

Or has he fallen victim to the latest bandwagon for political correctness?

I'd go for the latter.

The world has gone crazy. The car was a prop from a TV show back in the 70's and in my opinion should be left as it is.

I disagree. I think he is making an ideal gesture for the times we live in. Good on him.

Indeed, same for me! Overpainting it with the current flag and still calling it 'The General Lee' would be ridiculous!

Good gesture; wrong solution imo!

Crazy it's his car he didn't design it but it's just a car from a TV show keep it as it is, I don't think the car was responsible for any slavery.

Volkswagens were initially used to fund the German war machine let's all go out and remove all the badges and paint paint them an inoffensive pink color so that no one is offended, everyone now days walks around looking for things to be upset about.

PC gone mad

his car was one of many used in the show so no great loss,it was not the original one from the show as most people seem to think, why not paint it pink and use it in his local pride march, now that would make a statement.

Anyone who thinks this is a 'good gesture' is mistaken, why not leave it alone as he is clearly just currying favour. It's just a fictitious TV show prop

Pointless pandering to a pressure group who don't appear to fully understand the real problem. The issue isn't with the flag itself, more the fact that it was flying over Federal buildings..

is that why your council flies a GREGGS flag on the town hall;) told you we would win .

And why shouldn't it?

Is one person's heritage more important than another's?

It's pandering to the pc brigade, nothing more nothing less. But, it's his car, he can do with it as he will. I'd suggest however, if it offends him that much he should scrap the car or give it away.
Let's face it, the General Lee minus the Confederate flag is not the General Lee.
It's like Daisy Duke minus the Daisy Dukes...........weeeeeel, maybe that would be ok. 😀

A very strong argument there, backed up with a good understanding of the historical context of that flag.
