Broken Shaft

My dad's friend today borrowed me a RBZ 10.5 Degree driver with a graphite shaft. Me being the idiot I am whilst at the driving range on my front swing caught the top of the club on a metal part of the driving range instantly snapping the graphite shaft. To say I was devastated by this is an understatement I didn't even get to hit a ball with it! anyway the pro at the range has said he can fit a new shaft which is the Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana.. I'm desperate to know how people think this will affect the club? Will it still be as good as it once was with the RBZ shaft. I'm a beginner to golf but I was so excited to play with the club. Thanks in advance for any replies

If its an after market shaft and matches the flex specs of the original it's likely to be an upgrade. No doubt one of the shaftoids will be along soon though.

If I lent someone my driver and they broke it I would want to know before they went replacing the shaft. Personally if it's a club that worked for me as factory standard I would expect the club to be replaced.

I'm with La Lucha on this, can't just stick any old shaft in it, the best way forward would be to own up to the owner. Get him to try some shaft options ( unless the original is still available) and you pay for it.

Bad luck, I'm always conscious of small driving bays too

time to fess up, you can get a replacement shaft easy enough but make sure it the same as what was in the driver and the owner is aware. The chances are he will know anyway as the grip if nothing esles is very unlikely to be exactly the same.

He has let me keep the driver he doesn't use it anymore it's just the fact I felt guilty as this happened but it's me that will be using the club. I just don't want to think I've ruined the club so I can't use it that's why I'm asking advice.

Same suggestion would apply. Ask the pro if you can try a few shafts, on a monitor of some sort hopefully. May as well get the shaft fitted for you.

A new shaft will work just fine. In fact, the standard RBZ shaft is pretty crap, so you may well improve matters. Get the pro to help you choose one suited to your game.

Different shafts will produce different results; higher ball flight, lower ball flight, slightly more or less distance etc. Getting to try a few and seeing which one is best (ideally on a monitor of some sort so you can see each shaft result side by side) would be the way to go. Don't just take the first shaft that you're offered, it could hinder you rather than help!
