Broken Britain ......... last one out turn the lights off.

Ive got a couple of mates away at the moment and aside from the odd punch-up between cons and the unpleasantness of the druggies they reckon it is an absolute doss.

I would like to say basic food, maximum bang-up and no comforts whatsoever.

Prison should be hard like it is in the US.

Make people dread and fear their 1st visit and hopefully make it a big enough deterrant to prevent repeat visits.

Think quite a few of the hoodies and druggies round our way see it as a badge of honour. I thought things were starting to look up when the government found some balls and to EU to stick it about giving prisoners voting rights but it seems not.

That's not entirely the fault of the prison system though, there are many cultural differences that cause this.

As an example, much as it angers both myself and many here that we have benefit cheats and the abusers of the NHS, the alternaltive of no benefits or free healthcare as seen in the US, pushes people into more violent forms of crime.

Yes.
Whats wrong with it?

People behaviour is not as simple as 1 variable, 1 effect.

The reason the behaviour of ex convicts in the US is different than the UK is down to far more complex social reasons than just the prisons being tougher.

Edit: I just re-read the thread.

I think my post has been misinterpreted.

I am not saying cheating benefits of NHS is ok. I am saying the reason prisoners in the US may be more violent after time inside, is because of many cultural differences, such as no benefits or NHS, not just or necessarily tougher prisons.
 
Back on track with the thread, you know the system has gone mad when the following is now true.

Paisley Sheriff Court, WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS A DRUNK DRIVER HAS BEEN LET OFF AND THE CASE THROWN OUT WITH NO PROCEEDINGS AFTER THE LAWYER ARGUED HIS CLIENT WAS TOO DRUNK TO UNDERSTAND THE DRUNK DRIVER PROCEDURE!

The sheriff aparently agreed!!!! And as such it was unfit to convict!

Never mind the fact the client was pished and driving and could have killed anyones loved ones!

We are now a laughing stock!
