After getting my first handicap of 26 two years ago I have struggled to play to it and was beginning to get a bit frustrated. However, in the last eight days it all appears to have clicked and I am beginning to feel like a 'proper' golfer. Started with a society event last week where I finished second with 35 pts and followed that with 38pts in a qualifier to get a cut to 24.

The next step forward was Forest Pines at the weekend where, although I didn't putt out every hole I had me down for a 99 each day and felt competitive. Last year my scores would have been nearer 120.

This evening went out on my own for 18 on my home course and beat 90 for the first time with a 85 (off the yellows) :D. Really pleased and just hope I can keep it up. Playing in a qualifier on Sunday morning so we'll soon see.

Absolutely brilliant well done

Well done Mike. Having seen you for 18 holes off the tee, this score was never far away mate. Keep going at that short game and it will soon be "I broke 80". Good luck Sunday Mike

Congratulations. As a new golfer with a 24 handicap I'm looking forward to breaking 90 one day in the (not too distant) future hopefully.

Good luck on Sunday.

A big milestone achieved, next time you're coming down the stretch with a good card in your hand you'll know you can get it done again - and beat it. Play on!

Well played mate. great thing about this forum is it creates a lasting memory. You can search this thread in a few years and easily see the exact day this happened.

Howdidido has this info but it gets wiped if you move from one club to another.

Nice one, well played.

I took my forum name from the period when I was fighting to achieve that milestone. Wasn't long before I broke 80 for the first time.

Struggling to break 90 again at the minute :(

Breaking 90 is my current target. Got my first handicap (23) about 6 months ago. 92 is as close as I've got, but seem to be heading in the opposite direction at the moment!

Back down to earth today. 32 points, respectable but lost the ability to drive straight which is what has provided the good foundation over the past few weeks.

Nice one mate! I also broke 90 for the first time on Saturday, in a medal comp as well, scored 88. Still waiting to see what my handicap cut will be.
