Scored 87 a couple of weeks ago. thought it was all going pearshaped when i scored an 8 on the 16th, but i held on and recovered. Such a good feeling as i've been trying for it for what seems like a long long time.

Since then, i scored 107, 104 and then at the weekend a 91. I totally lost it with the rounds inbetween... i mean: 20 shots more!!!

Still, one year down the golfing line and progress is being made!

Keep the faith. That is the beauty of this stupid game. One day you can be a king amongst men and the next a pauper. The secret is not to try too hard and force a score. Let it come naturally. The more you try and protect a decent score the more tense you will become in your swing and you will actually lose more shots than if you keep playing the way you had. It is all part of getting golfing experience so enjoy the good days and forget the bad.

Well done Slugger!!
It's amazing what getting past a certain score does, I know it worked wonders for me. I too have only been playing for 13 months, and it took me four rounds to break 100.
Another 6 months to break 90, then about 6 weeks ago I shot a 79, breaking 80 for the first time. I think it helps knowing that you can do it!!
I would however take a minute to point out that this only happened with a little bit of dedication and a hell of a lot of hard work, I would estimate that in the last 12 months I have hit somewhere in the region of 8-9000 Balls!!

Keep up the practice and enthusiasm and I'm sure you will be breaking 90 regularly!!

well done mate. i know a lot of people on here bang on about breaking 80, but everyone has, or at least should have, different targets, and to break 90 is a great one to acheive. im sure it took me more than a year to do so, and even now, i still let the odd one (or more) slip over 90.

don't worry about the intermittant rubbish in between. i find it's often the way that having shot a good score, you try really hard to match or better it next time, and play like a tool! relax, dont think about it, and im sure you will break 90 soon enough again.

Well done mate. Hope to do the same myself soon.

Same situation though was regularly shooting mid-low 90's just before x-mass, then had a run of about 4 or 5 rounds 105+. One was a 116 for Christ sake

But my scores are going in the right direction again now. Thank God

Well done mate breaking 90 for the first time was harder for me than breaking 100.

That said once I had done it a few times my consistency developed enormously and I now regularly shoot closer to 80 than 90.

So now you know you can do it, keep practicing and do it again and shooting mid-low 80s will be happening in no time :D

Breaking 90 is a huge milestone, well done. I hope it inspires you to head for the low 80's then dare I say it beak the magical 80.

Keep up the good work and it wont be long till your handicap starts to take a tumble.

I think Homer has a good point, once you break a target, thats when to stay cool and not try too hard to achieve the next level of your targets as the slap in the face is just waiting for you, If you do get a slap in the face dont let it bother you, you've broken 90 you will do it again and again. Well done for breaking 90.

hey ,

well done !!

i just hope you dont do what i did lol ..

i started nearly 7 years ago and had a pretty good start to my golfing carrer ,

i shot a 90 on a long courses in my first few months and was playing consistently around that mark for 12 months , and then over night it plain and simlpy went PEAR shaped and i didnt shoot below 100 for 4 years ,

i had studied all the dvds golf mag tips etc , had lessons from the pro etc ,,, but still i was as awful if not worse than when i first strarted playing the game .. howeer i managed to stick at it and had my best year in 08 shooting low 80's and a couple of 80's off the whites ,

i was close to quitting a coupple of years ago but realised i love the game too much , so i just tried to remind my self what it was all about .

after 4 years of total study of the game and knowing how it worked techcially . i realised this knowledge was invaluable , however it ment nothing if i didnt know my own swing and how my game worked , so i began to work out my streng and weaknesess and the story so rolls on ....

regards

mark

Excellent, thats great news. Always good to reach your targets. My next one is breaking 80. I didnt realsie how close I was a few weeks ago because I didnt add my score up on the way round.

Remember your course management and take your meds when it goes wrong, you'll be shooting lower regularly if you do.
